we/they

The young man who was knocked down and killed by a car this morning was my next-door neighbour. He liked to cracked jokes. He was very helpful. Most of my neighbours know that he was someone whom we/they could depend on if we/they needed any help.

1. Are there any errors in the text?
2. Should I use 'we' or 'they'? I am not sure because of 'my' in the earlier part of the text.

Thanks.

@tanguatlay,
One would write "He liked to crack jokes" (not "cracked"). As for the rest of it, i would use "they" because you refer to your neighbors.

@Setanta,
Thanks, Setanta.

Yes "...to crack jokes'. It was a careless mistake. So, it is 'they', thanks again.

@tanguatlay,
You could write,

I and most of my neighbours knew [he is dead now] that he was someone whom we could depend on if we needed any help.

Include yourself and use "we".

Just allude to the neighbours and use "they".

By the way, personally I think that "someone upon whom we/they could depend" looks better.
