Well, I already ate breafast, so I'm making a great one for Gezzy...
Eggs over easy, homefries done in oil, butter, a touch of oregano, bacon, fried ham, sausage, whole wheat toast, fresh ground coffee and fresh squeezed oj.

Every Wednesday morning, for the last ten years, my block goes out together for breakfast. It's a little redneck joint in a neighboring town. Not much to look at, but the owner is great. Runs around like a chicken, taking care of us. In the winter, we can get 20-25 people at the breakfast. We never know who is going to come.

I always get the same thing. I once ordered tomato juice, which I never have at home, and now she aways brings it to me. I get a #1- Scrambled eggs, toast, bacon & of course, grits.

The food is decent, and it is a great way to stay connected to your neighbors!

Joan, the aloe very stuff was quite good. It's like plain yoghurt with a little bit of sugar and little aloe pieces. They are nice and soft and funny to chew. I do like it Smile

Phoenix - What are grits?

Apart from the grits, your breakfast sounds great - and there are no bagels!

Phoenix, you must live in a small town. Where I'm from, even though I'm lucky to live in a close knit neighborhood with lots of friends, there's no way in heck you'd get anybody together for breakfast on a Wednesday. Maybe the stay at home parents after the kids get dropped off at school.

I'm sick of oatmeal....

margo- Here's the dictionary definition:

Quote:
grits (grits)
pl.n. (used with a sing. or pl. verb)
A ground, usually white meal of dried and hulled corn kernels that is boiled and served as a breakfast food or side dish.
Coarsely ground grain, especially corn.

For some reason, of which I have no inkling, grits is a passion in the southern parts of the US. As a former Northerner, I had barely heard of it, let alone ate it. In the South, grits will be served as a side dish, instead of the home fries served up north.

When I moved down here, I figured that I might as well try the grits. When in Rome, you know. I found that I loved them.

Imagine Cream of Wheat, but chunkier and more flavorful.

Usually I'm good and have Raisin Bran or Cheerios, a couple cups of tea, and off I go. But Brian drank all the milk. I'll blame my not-so-healthy breakfast on him.

I had a fried egg and cheese sandwich, iced tea, and a little of the banana cream pie I got for my (slightly late) school-birthday celebration. I like banana cream pie.

^-^

Ooh ooh ooh! A little off topic, I know, but I've officially switched from "Just hatched" to "Newbie" status!

I'm excited.

Phoenix
Thanks for the explanation, but - I can't imagine "cream of wheat" and what are "home fries".

You do talk another language on that side of the ditch!

Grits are sort of a soft, runny, white polenta. Does that help? Home fries are just homemade pommes frittes, or french fries.

Today is our office holiday pot luck. One lady brought in a cured, smoked ham from a wild boar her her husband shot. Definitely not boaring...

Another version of home fries is sliced or diced potatoes, sauteed in oil with a little onion until brown and slightly crisp. Maybe that's what phoenix is talking about.
