I have some apple butter I picked up in case of emergencies, and then I forgot I had it! Thank you for the reminder. I'll have to have some soon.

Beth, do you make the cheese bread you toast and top with the apple butter? Do you have a recipe?

I went for my regular coffee and paper this morning to my 'favorite' coffee shop, but there were two guys sitting at the next table with very loud voices. One guy had a booming voice as if he wanted everybody in the coffee shop to hear him. If I run into those guys again, I'm going to change my place of business and reading of my newspaper. I already made alternate plans to buy my coffee at 7-11, and read my newspaper at home. c.i.

Apple butter is a spread, a preserve, that is not jellied. It's made from apples and apple cider. Non-purists might add cinnamon. The texture is smooth and velvety. It is dark brown, like molasses.

Imagine an apple compote, sort of, but dark, and thick enough to spread on toast and not make it soggy, and very very smooth.

macsm, sounds good! Different from the strictly traditional, but very yummy looking!

c.i., I am so sorry those boisterous fools tried to ruin your morning place. Don't let them take it away from you. It was yours first!

marycat, I understand fully that a coffee shop is a public place, but some people must ruin the whole atmosphere with boilterious sounds from their mouths and/or cell phones. I don't expect complete silence, but I can't even concentrate reading a newspaper when these dolts have no common sense. Some people just don't know any better. c.i.

mary cat - i used to make the cheese bread, will root around for the recipe. i know it's near the potato soup recipe and very stained!
a local bakery started making a really nice sourdough cheese bread which helped me become very very lazy about baking.

Breakfast ? what's that ?

When I'm at home 2 or 3 mugs of strong tea, with milk and sugar and 2 or 3 strong cigarettes.

When I'm away I lose all sence of reality and throw caution to the wind. I have the full english breakfast, plus the tea and cigarettes.

There's something to an English breakfast beside tea and cigarettes? I always thought that grisly greasy stuff was just some sort of grotesque table decoration. ;-)

This morning was a triple espresso, no food.

Woo hoo!

Had that guy with a booming voice at the coffee shop again this morning. What was strange was that his voice wasn't always booming, so I know he can keep his voice down to normal levels. c.i.
