He's batting for 1.000 so far.

@fbaezer,
The Orioles are bragging about all the muscle he put on, and his improved patience at the plate ... and all it took was opening his eyes when he swings the bat!

I see two pitchers on foxfyre's team doing well - which I'm happy about as I liked them last year: Jurrgens and Jimenez.

@ossobuco,
They are doing well for now. And next time? Who knows.

But all in all, for a rookie who has no idea what she's doing yet, I think I'm pleased. Smile

@ossobuco,
I had Jurrgens last year and I liked him very well. I seem to remember him getting battered later in the season, but can't find the stats offhand. Still, he had great control for quite a long time. Ulbaldo is another story - I like him but think of him as streaky. Still, it's good to see him start out well.

I also had Duchscherer, whom I thought was terrific, but he got hurt, and is presently on the DL again, with luck not for long. (I forget who has him, but one of us does.)

Both could be huge this year. I hate to say it, but the Braves are NL Wild Card contenders.

I always say **** like this in the first week of the season.

@Gargamel,
I see Wandy Rodriguez is starting out sturdily. I kept him and Wellemeyer on my team last year for the longest spell of unrequited patience, their both having started out pretty well.

On my this year's team, a few people are under my cautionary eye - a couple of newbies and Litsch, who will probably right himself. Maybe I should worry about Lee, but not yet - he has a lot of room to progress from me. I have too many pitchers, but I'm waiting and watching.

I've been noticing - in baseball evaluation lists - a lot of comments about differences with american league teams from national league teams, but not explaining the differences as if it were so obvious. What's that about?

@ossobuco,
The pitcher takes a turn at bat in the National league. American league has the designated hitter bat in lieu of the pitcher. One reason pitchers in the National league might tend to fare better -- they usually face a very weak hitter in the lineup.

A tragedy in the real life baseball world. Nick Adenhart, the rookie pitcher for the Angels, who pitched a pretty good game against the A's last night -- the best of his young career -- was among three people killed early this morning when the driver of a mini-van ran a red light.

@Ticomaya,
Indeed. Thoughts and prayers there for sure.

I have a pitcher with a 40.5 ERA. Anybody interested in a trade?

@Foxfyre,
RPs who implode tend to do that to you.

@Ticomaya,
Tough news on Nick Adenhart - I've been reading about that.

On RPs, I just let Saito go, and he's pretty steady over time.

I didn't expect my team to be particularly good at hitting. But they are. Here are the only 3 players to have team batting averages over .300 through this evening:
firefighters with a blazing (ouch) .353 followed by Fbaezer at .344 and Johnboy at .333
