And you see this as a failing in your kids, not as something to which you may have contributed?

I think my cat looks at me with love. Love like a kitten feels for it's mother or father. And I think it's the same kind of love and attachment we have for our parents. Cats can feel love in that way. Dogs can too. At least that's what I think. Of course, I could be wrong. What about you? What do you think?

I think that a cat is a mammal, ALL of whose genders
are either male or female not neuter, therefore
he or she cannot be logically represented by the pronoun " it ".

We have no means of know ing whether even other humans
love or not; however, my best bet is affirmative for both.

Youre just doing a transferral . If you dont understand, see rogers post above.
Cats have a brain as big as a sour ball.

By your reasoning, humans are stupider than elephants and whales.
U r very smugly presumptuous to think that u know
what another being is thinking.
Is ALL of your reasoning that competent?

For a dog, its not love, its flavor.

That is the most filthy, loathsome obscene wanton attack upon the sensibilities
of your fellow citizens of this forum, farmer; unprovoked attack.

U shoud be ASHAMED of yourself for befouling
the sensibilities of your fellow participants in this forum.
That imagry is disgusting, abhorent and uncivilized.
It disgraces u in front of your friends.

There are some minimal requirements of civility.
Gentlemen know that.

If u do anything like that again,
for sure u r going on Ignore.
That 's no threat; its a fact.

My daughter or son will say, 'Pearl, come here,' trying to get her in or out of the house and she totally ignores them. I'll go to the door and say, 'Pearl!' one word, one time and she's in or out like a shot.
My kids get so mad.
She's also extremely protective. If we're walking and I trip or fall down, she'll stand right there with me until I get up. If I'm crying, she'll come and lay her head in my lap.
It might just be because I walk her- I don't feed her- my kids do that. And you might not call it love- but it's certainly devotion of the purest sort.

Dogs n cats have demonstrated self-sacrifice,
which seems to be indicative of love.

Respect? And why would she respect anyone for doing what they were put on earth to do.

Feed a dog; it thinks you are a god.

I midwifed my dog into the world and Mr. B is convinced that the pup imprinted on me.

Seriously, if my dog was a person I'd be one of those girls writing in saying "I know my boyfriend loves me but he calls me 1,000 times a day to make sure he knows where I am and who I'm with, he won't let me get near anyone else and he won't let anyone else near me, he checks my email and my voicemail and listens in to my phone calls, etc., etc., etc."

I don't think the dog loves me as much as he is obsessed with me. It's crazy making.

As for the cat.... well.... we're all just lucky she lets us live in her house.

david, you're a hoot.

Yeah; I have been accused of stuff like that by reputable authorities,
beginning with my mother.

@kickycan,
I think your cat loves you, Kick.

Reminds me of when the neighbor's duck, Foxy, died. Our cat mourned for days.

Of course my dog loves me. No one ever greets you like a dog does, even though
you're just back from taking out the trash only. The love of a dog is unconditional, no matter how rotten its owner is.

Thay feel jealousy too.
About 40 or 50 years ago,
my mother rescued a kitten
and brought her home,
whereupon our senior cat
discernibly took great personal offense
that was dramatically visible on his face
and in his body language. The next day,
he hit the road, never to be seen again.

If any of you were to hear Gracie respond to me entering the room you would know without question that dogs are capable of love.

Had you been in my room last night as the two kitties rampaged you would know without question that they are clueless to human emotion AND need for sleep.

whenever your cat or dog, licks or sniffs you, they are determining the best place to start eating you, when you slip, fall and crack your head

My cat does love me, I'm sure, but if I were smaller than he is, he would kill me without a second thought.

Both my cats lick me. I always thought it was because they loved me. But maybe it is because I taste good.
