When did you join A2K (or Abuzz)?

@rosborne979,
Abuzz - late autumn 1999. I followed a link from the New York Times at the end of a review of an off-Broadway production of a Wendy Wasserstein play ... there was a question at the end of the review ... something along the lines of ... would you be interested in discussing this with other people ... I'd declined a couple of previous similar notices ... decided to click on the yes.

The link didn't take me into any kind of theatre discussion, but into some sort of exercise discussion ... there was a challenge as to how many sit-ups people could do. I posted my results, then started reading around the site.

I started here hmmmm early to mid-September 2002 as I recall. I spent a day or two mostly posting to myself or Roger as no one else had joined (or couldn't figure out how to log in).

Abuzz, January 2001, just like Thomas. And I was following a link of the NYT. My first post there was about Cuba, against Adrian Iforgothislastname, a self proclaimed Canadian socialist.
A2K, on October 2002.
And for several months in 2002 I was active at The Raven's Realm.

I joined Abuzz in either 1999 or 2000. I can't quite remember because I joined twice. The first time I used a handle that I later decided was uncomfortably close to my real name, so I ditched that identity and took this one. I can't remember how I found Abuzz--I believe it was also through the NY Times. Didn't the Times used to have its own discussion page that was replaced by Abuzz? Anyway, I think I was most active in the music and religion threads, back then.

I joined A2K on 29 Aug 2004 (making me an A2K Virgo, I guess) though like others I didn't actually post anything for several months after that. (I've also been incognito recently due to an unusually busy semester. I think this is only my second post in about three months.) Last August I was tempted to post something on my "A2K birthday" and wonder aloud whether my posts fit the profile of an A2K Virgo.

Sometime in 2000. Wow...I thought it was much, much earlier than that!

I use to think I've been doing this stuff for about 12 - 15 years.

It's hard to believe it's coming up on 10 years.
I hate to think how many things I must have written, probably could have produced a book by now.

That 's when I began with Abuzz.
I joined it because of my enjoyment of argument.
ABout 35 years ago, I made room for a tennant
just because of his ability to argue.

I organized a convention of Abuzzers at a restaurant on 46th St. in 2002.
We argued there.

My first post ... responding to Cyclops:

So take it with a grain of salt.

Couldn't the same be said about the NY Times?

And isn't Kerry's plan with regard to Iran's nuclear capabilities (declined by Iran already), very similar to Clinton's approach to N. Korea?

And, hi, this is my first post. Very Happy

I joined on March 8, 2008 and recall my first online friend here as somebody named "Scrat". Whatever happened to him/her? This was my first on line forum experience and it took awhile to learn the ropes and adjust my tactics so that I annoyed only most folks instead of everybody Smile Up until that time, my on line interpersonal relationships were limited to formal forums such as CNN Educational Forum on AOL and playing in bridge tournaments, etc..

I joined Abuzz in the fall of 2000, also following a link from the NYT. (Probably also from some theater review.) I mostly played movie trivia games.

I joined A2K 11/11/02.

I got an e-mail from Jespah (who had, if i recall, a sort of an Abuzz members master list of some kind) to join here, but didn't sign up until October, 2002.

I had a list of some 300 Abuzzers and then through the Raven's Realm there were about 1,000 people (lots of overlap). I spent the first few weeks or so of A2K's existence either inviting people or directing other folks to do the inviting. I'm the fifth or so listed A2K member, but three of the first "members" are actually fake accounts so I'm the second after, of course, Robert.

Joined Abuzz in November of 2000, I wanted someone intelligent to talk to about that debacle of an election.

@jespah,
I joined shortly after the election, in 2000. I know this, because I remember still being upset over the election. Thanks for jogging my memory.

I got my first computer in October 1998, and the internet about a month later. I don't think that I was on the internet but for a few weeks when I saw a link from the New York Times for Abuzz.

I remember the first thread that I wrote. It was about a bottle of champagne that I had in my house for a very long time. I wanted to know if it was still drinkable.

I remember being nervous as hell when I wrote that post. This was my first experience with an online forum.

I quickly became "hooked" on Abuzz. When it looked like it was going belly up, I worked with a few of the other members in compiling a list of E Mail addresses
"just in case". Bob Gentel had said that he was going to create another website, (I had been on the Raven's Realm, his other site, but not very much). When Abuzz finally died, many of the people who had been on that site migrated to A2K. I was one of the earliest members. The rest is history.
