@NickFun,
One thing I noticed reading biographies of several WW-I and WW-II flying aces including both Rudel and Richthofen, was that ALL of them claimed that flying in bad visibility scared them totally shitless. Interesting contrast between that and the case of JohnJohn Kennedy....

@gungasnake,
Gunga it seems you hold high reverence for Nazis and disdain for Democrats. I pity you.

@NickFun,
I have nothing but contempt for nazis AND/OR demoKKKrats. Vanishingly close to the same thing.

Stuka pilot? Gimme a break.
"Most of his victories were against ground targets".
Ooooh. Impressive.

@George,
A stuka was flying at speeds which would have allowed a reasonably good marksman with a rifle to hit it and anybody on the top of a tank with a machinegun SHOULD have been able to hit one. Ground targets vs stukas was a fair fight.

Given a choice, I'd take the Stuka.

@George,
Maybe...

The thing which is amazing as the video notes is that Rudel and a handful of others were able to go on using stukas effectively until the end of the war in the East.

Stukas had no chance against real fighters and Russia had real fighter aircraft from about the midpoint of the war. Galland and others noted that it was impossible to protect stukas from spitfires and hurricanes over England.

Also amazing is that Rudel apparently had something like 17 kills of other aircraft on top of the 500+ tanks, ships, and other vehicles. That would be like shooting down other aircraft with a Piper cub or a Cessna

@Walter Hinteler,
The announcer in the video said 17, but even one would be amazing.

@gungasnake,
I don't rely on what someone on a video says.

And I don't think that it's sooo amazing: the JU 87G was an altered version which could do such.

@gungasnake,
Rudel flew about 400 of his missions in a Focke-Wulf 190.

In fact, the top five Luftwaffe "aces" were: Erich Hartmann, with 353 kills; Gerhard Barkhorn, 301 kills; Gunter Rall, 275 kills; Otto Kittel, 267 kills; and Walter Nowotny (an Austrian), with 258 kills.

@Setanta,
And I'm sure when they were not killing people they made a mean barbecue!

@NickFun,
Hey clown . . . keep your snide remarks to yourself.

Gunga Dim, as usual , was spreading bullshit. His "hero" here was nowhere near being "Germany's ultimate flying ace." I was pointing that out. At no time did i state or imply that these men were heroes, deserved to be considered heroes, or were in any way admirable. I was simply putting the record straight.

I equally have no reason to assume that any of these men were monsters. Your private demons and obsessions have nothing to do with me.
