@Izzie,
I can't be in the hospital. It'll be fine. I should have gone a long time ago..crap. No, I am sure I don't have a broken rib...it doesn't hurt that bad. Sharp pain when I breathe in and when I lay down on either side...that's it.

I'm betting on pleurisy.

See a doctor...ain't nobody here who can help you.

Let us know.

Once again, I'm betting on pleurisy.

Even if you don't break your ribs, really hard/severe coughing can bruise or stretch the connecting tissue holding your ribs together and you can get sore as the dickens. Your getting relief after lying on a particular side after awhile is pretty much how that works. Not life threatening but very uncomfortable. Chances are very good that this is your problem, Mismi. But. . . .

Walking pneumonia is also a possibility, and you need to know whether that is the situation here. That is also not life threatening if treated and it is usually recommended that you not go to bed with it but need to be doing very moderate activity with it so if you have a job that doesn't require a lot of activity you can probably still work.

Take the advice. Go see the doctor.

Edit: Oh you have an appointment already. Good. (Damn, I hate it when brilliant advice goes to waste like that.)

Half sounds like a collapsed lung...

This happened to my wife when she was little. Collapsed lung from asthma/coughing.

@mismi,
Given the duration of the event along with your ongoing lethargy, it might be a bacterial infection of the right lung which developed due to the virus last month. They 'll probably give you antibiotics and tell you to rest a lot. But definitely see a Dr. Good luck.

wow - spot on. Doc said it sounds like I had Bronchitus and because I didn't get it taken care of early it affected the right lung - or some odd thing like that.

I am on a unbelievable amount of medication. Non-steroid anti-inflammatory for the right lung, Z-pak, Mucinex DM and pain meds for sleeping, and plenty of rest for the next couple of days. I have the munchkins home today - but I have the Wii babysitting them...I would not normally do that - but I feel it is okay today - Thanks for the information and well-wishes. I am fine - or will be Wink

Hi Mismi,

The Z-Pak (Zithromax) is the anti-biotic, so the Dr must think you have a bacterial infection (which I believe is consistent with acute pain in localized areas of the lung). The anti-inflammatory is to help improve blood circulation in the area and the other stuff is to reduce coughing (which irritates the area) and help you sleep.

If I remember correctly lung problems can become nasty if you don't treat them seriously, so follow your Dr's instructions (this amateur agrees with him/her) Smile Feel better.
