Many people don't remember Elam appeared in High Noon. He was the drunk the marshal had sleeping in the cell.
He grew a beard in his later days and tried some tv series. He starred in one that didn't last the whole first season. He had a recurring part on "Eight is Enough."

One biographer on there though Elam was a gunfighter in High noon. Probably thinking of Lee Van Cleef's character.
He was an uncredited drunk in "High Noon."
And Jack Elam brings to mind all those great Western character actors which brings to mind Walter Brennan which brings to mind:
