Can you look at this map and say Israel does not systemically appropriate land?

Each side has valid points.

BOTTOM LINE: (best guess)

So long as there is a state of Israel in the Middle East...and any living Arabs at all...

...there will never be anything approximating real peace. There will be war, hatred, distrust, maiming, and killing.

@0bserver,
The Palestinians don't hang gay men in public squares either. The Palestinian people are under the direct control of the Israeli army. They have no rights. If you look at what's going in Hebron you can see exactly how few rights they have.

The apartheid situation has been covered before.

Quote:
About 20% of Israel's population are of Arab-Palestinian descent. They routinely complain that they are treated like second-class citizens.

Israeli Apartheid Week (IAW) is an annual international series of events (including rallies, lectures, cultural performances, film screenings, multimedia displays and boycott of Israel actions) held in cities and campuses across the globe. Last year’s IAW was incredibly successful with over 215 cities participating worldwide.

IAW seeks to raise awareness about Israel’s apartheid policies towards the Palestinians and to build support for the growing Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel campaign.

Israel's health ministry is to investigate why contraceptive injections were widely given to Ethiopian immigrant women.

A new committee will look into allegations that this was done in a deliberate attempt to reduce births in the Ethiopian Israeli community.

In December, an Israeli TV documentary produced evidence about the use of a drug called Depo-Provera.

It suggested immigrants were given shots without their full consent.

At the time, health officials flatly denied this was a policy.

However, the Haaretz newspaper now quotes a Health Ministry spokesperson as saying there will be "an in-depth investigation into this issue, even though it has been looked into in the past, to confirm that there is no such instruction by any agency".

Ministry officials, an independent physician and a representative of the Ethiopian community are expected to sit on the panel.

A new Ethiopian-Israeli member of parliament, Penina Tamanu-Shata, from the second biggest party, Yesh Atid, has been pressing for an inquiry.

The issue is extremely sensitive in Israel where the population of about 120,000 thousand Ethiopian Jews sometimes complains of discrimination. There have been several scandals in the past. In 1996, for example, the Israeli authorities admitted they had secretly disposed of blood donations given by Ethiopian Israelis because of fears about HIV/Aids.

Questions are being asked whether the use of contraceptive shots could have contributed to the 50% drop in the birth rate among Ethiopian immigrant women in the past decade.

Depo-Provera shots, which are given every three months, are not a standard method of birth control in Israel.

Allegations have been made that some Ethiopian women coming to the country were given them against their will and without having the full side effects explained.

In recent weeks, the Health Ministry has issued new advice to gynaecologists "not to renew prescriptions for Depo-Provera for women of Ethiopian origin if for any reason there is concern they might not understand the full ramifications of the treatment".

Israel is apartheid to the nth degree. At the top you've got the European and American white settlers, next it's the Russians, after that the Sephardic Jews who were there long before the Zionists arrived, then the African Jews, and finally the Israeli Arabs and other non Jews. That's before we get to the poor old Palestinians.

@izzythepush,
Well, Palestinians drag their own people on the streets tied to motorcycles:

This is a lie. I thought you were more educated than that - disappointing. Show me one Israeli law that says anything like that.

"that's before we get to the poor old Palestinians. "

For the third time - Palestinians are not Israeli citizens. What rights do the the citizens of Ireland have in the UK?

@0bserver,
The aircraft carriers were deployed long before this conflict. You don't understand what's going on in Gibraltar. 98%+ of the population voted to stay British. The last Socialist Government worked with the Gibraltarians to move towards closer ties. The current government is using this as a distraction to cover up for its appalling handling of the economy. It's doing more harm to Spanish who work in Gibraltar and commute daily than to the Gibraltarians.

it has nothing to do with Apartheid. Why can't you see that?

Why don't you write top Archbishop Desmond Tutu and ask him why he doesn't understand apartheid? I'm sure he'll appreciate you shining a light on his ignorance.

@0bserver,
Have you followed the link I gave, the routine discrimination against Ethiopian Jews?

Some Palestinians may do bad things, but that doesn't justify the occupation.

@izzythepush,
Yes. I'm sure after the bombing of the Falklands, the population also voted whatever it was told by the UK. Seriously, the only country in the world that should not speak up too much about colonies, occupation etc is the UK

Exactly the same rights as UK citizens. It's part of the EU freedom of movement.

If you'd had your wits about you, you'd research something like that before asking such a daft question. You assume things, that's not the same as finding out the truth. You assume a lot about Israel too.

Yeah you're right, what do Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu know about apartheid?

@izzythepush,
I can buy that there is some discrimination by the population. There is a huge difference between prejudice among the population and the state laws! There is discrimination against immigrants from Poland in the UK. Is UK an Apartheid state because of that? Apartheid is discrimination by the law - there is nothing like that in Israel.

There are many countries that do discriminate by the law. You can't ware a Muslim vale to school in France. You can in Israel. I'm not even talking about what laws Muslim countries have against women - again by law! A woman was raped in Dubai and was charge for having sex outside of marriage. Open your eyes. Really, Israel is the worst you could find?

On a completely unrelated note: I agree with you that occupation has to end.

@0bserver,
Whatever it was told to? You're delusional. The population of the Falklands is fiercely patriotic. There's no coercion on the part of the UK. Even the Argentinians accept that. The main stumbling block to talks is that Argentina wants to talk directly to the UK and leave the Islanders out of it. We think the Islanders should be in the centre of any negotiations about their future. Try researching things first.

You've lost the argument and now you're clutching at straws.

Ok. I was too quick on this one. But you know what I mean. Replace Ireland with Belorussia or something. Don't be too picky on specifics

Don't be picky on specifics? You've just made a sweeping statement about the Falklands referendum being rigged.

I think specifics are what's needed. Belorussians aren't indigenous to the UK.
