Can you look at this map and say Israel does not systemically appropriate land?

The Palestinians and their ancestors lived in what is now Israel for more than 3000 years. Its their native land and they want to live there freely today. That's their right.

The Palestinians lost that right when they ignored international law and refused to make peace with Israel.

The Palestinians have not been deprived of any rights. They were given every opportunity to have a state based on 1967 borders. All they had to do is start obeying the law and stop murdering people.

Israel Reopens Gaza Fishing Zones as Part of Cease-fire Agreements

Hamas has warned that if Israel does not implement all of the cease-fire agreements by the weekend, fighting may begin anew

Almog Ben Zikri
May 10, 2019 1:18 PM

Israel reopened fishing zones along the coast of Gaza Friday morning, expanding the zone to 12 nautical miles, as part of the implementation of cease-fire agreements mediated by Egypt between Israel and the two main organizations in the coastal enclave, Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

According to an announcement by the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories Thursday, the reopening of the fishing zones is "part of a civilian policy to avoid a humanitarian deterioration in the Gaza Strip and part of a policy that differentiates between terrorist activities and an uninvolved civilian population."

The announcement also noted that the fishing zones were opened on condition that the Gazans do not exceed the agreed-upon fishing zone. Any deviation will be handled by the security forces, the statement added.

The Qatari envoy to Israel and the Palestinians, Mohammed al-Emadi, is expected to return to Gaza on Friday, or within the coming days, in order to transfer the monthly Qatari funds that pay the salaries of Hamas officials and provide for impoverished families in the Strip.

The Palestinian groups in Gaza told Egyptian mediators earlier this week that they are giving Israel one week to implement the cease-fire agreements – including the reopening of the fishing zone, the transfer of Qatari money and the reopening of the border crossings for the entry of goods.

The reopening of the border crossings has been delayed due to Israel's decision to close all crossings into the Strip and the West Bank during Israel's Memorial Day and Independence day.

A Hamas political source told Haaretz that they expect Israel to complete the three steps over the weekend, and if not, fighting may begin anew.

@InfraBlue,
What upsets me more is that our government continues to describe Israel as a "democracy." Israeli settlements are illegal under international laws. Evidently, they don't understand the definition of words. From Brookings:
Quote:
These results indicate neither a rise in anti-Semitism nor even a rise in hostility toward Israel as such. As analysis of previous polls has shown, many who espouse these opinions base them on a principled worldview that emphasizes human rights and international law.
.
Quote:
The international community considers the establishment of Israeli settlements in the Israeli-occupied territories illegal under international law, because of the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949 which states: "The Occupying Power shall not deport or transfer parts of its own civilian population into the territory it ...

Keep in mind that, in a polarized America with deep political antagonism, it’s hardly surprising that Americans would have sharply divided views on Israelis and Palestinians. What many read as a rising anti-Israeli sentiment among Democrats is mischaracterized; it reflects anger toward Israeli policies—and increasingly, with the values projected by the current Israeli government.

@cicerone imposter,
You are the person who does not understand. Israel is indeed a democracy. They hold regular elections.

"False accusations that Israel is committing imaginary atrocities" and "anger at Israel over these imaginary policies" are indeed antisemitism.

They are textbook examples of antisemitism in fact. Neonazi types have always accused Jews of committing imaginary atrocities.

As for the settlements, Israel is only required to hand that land over to the Palestinians if Israel gets peaceful acceptance from the Palestinians in exchange for it.

Absent any peaceful acceptance from the Palestinians, Israel is free to keep that land for themselves and use it as they please.

I suggest that Palestinians try to build a state around the Gaza Strip alone. Palestinians from the West Bank can be removed and transported to the Gaza Strip.

@oralloy,
How does a ban on a voting block be considered "democratic?"
Quote:
In the 2015 elections, turnout among Arabs was only 63.5 percent compared with 76 percent among Jews, even as Arab voters that year showed particular enthusiasm for the unprecedented union of four diverse Arab parties. This year, the Joint List has broken up into two coalitions, Hadash-Ta’al and Raam-Balad. The latter party had been banned by Israel’s election commission. Although Israel’s Supreme Court has since reversed the decision, the fielding firm for our poll, Statnet, reported voter confusion before the court decision. This may explain the fact that, in multiple polls, Raam-Balad has been hovering around the 3.25 percent needed to make it to the Knesset, something that would substantially affect the right/center-left balance.

@cicerone imposter,
It depends on the reason for the ban.

I am calling for the Democratic Party to be banned in America. Since the reason for this proposed ban is to prevent their abuse of the law to harm innocent people, this ban would be entirely consistent with democracy.

Your quote says that Israeli courts overturned the ban in any case, whatever the reason for it was.

It doesn't take violence.

The Palestinians would achieve far far more by going to the negotiation table and peacefully accepting Israel's existence as a Jewish state.

@cicerone imposter,
I've written this before, but a democracy doesn't have armed guards on the roads to restrict any culture, religion or race to have a different colored license plate to restrict the use of all roads in the country like Israel. ........................................................................... Image result for different colored license plates in israelen.wikipedia.org
In the West Bank, Palestinians and Israelis use different colored license plates. Palestinian vehicles have green or white plates; Israeli vehicles have yellow plates.
