Can you look at this map and say Israel does not systemically appropriate land?

It is offensive to equate Palestinians with nomadic Native Americans. Were you aware that Israel has a programme of forest planting which deliberately obscures traces of former villages and settlements?
Arabic placenames are routinely replaced with Hebrew ones. Orchards and groves are uprooted, and wells for water are filled in or despoiled. All that can be done to make life untenable for settled Palestinians is being done, as a matter of state policy.

@Walter Hinteler,
Unlike the Arab countries, Israel is a free country in which people can write and publish unrepresentative nonsense. Israel has the most humane military in the world. Israel does not target civilians, and it takes prisoners. Virtually all prisoners of the Arabs are murdered.

Well, it was the Israelian Military Court's decission about whose decission that opinion was reflecting.

And that "unrepresentative nonsense" was published similarily in the JP and other media, as you're certainly aware of. (Just have a look at some of frontpages from last week!)

Your Lordship, you made the original comparison to indigenous people in this prior post of yours:

"Indigenous, certainly.

Americans have been inhabiting the land now termed USA for less than 300 years.
Some of them a lot less than that.
Are you saying you will cede ownership to those who might have prior claim? "

I was just following your train of thought.

Also, Israel is not an Arab country. Hebrew is the official language, I thought. Shall we give London streets Arabic names, or Pakastani names (East End)?

Do not answer. I do not enjoy repartee with Your Lordship.

@Foofie,

My posts are not placed here for your enjoyment.

I write to record Israel's rape of Palestine, and its cheating and dissembling. And to highlight the extreme prejudice , bad faith and evil of its apologists.

You people "took umbrage" at the Shoah. And rightly so.

Now your're doing your own version of it.

Referring to McT as "your lordship" is an example of the snide passive-aggressive hatefulness on the part of Foofie that, among other failings, makes me despise him.

My point in mentioning this, is that whenever Israeli forces take over a Palestinian town or village, part of their modus operandi is to remove all civic records. Records of births, marriages, deaths and particularly land records. And they change arabic names to hebrew ones as part of this process.

When did you become Palestinean? You are doing poor algebra. Jews took umbrage with Jews being exterminated. So, God bless your empathy; unfortunately it prevents you from minding your own bloody business.

Why assume it reflects "snide passive-aggressive hatefulness"? It could be an honest attempt at building up his positive self-esteem, since he is not a Yank like you and I. Additionally, I do not "despise" you, since I do not know you enough to make any rash decisions as to whether you deserve any negative feelings from me. However, I do feel a bit of sadness for your life, the little that I have gleaned from your posts, since I do believe you had the potential for so much more in the way of accomplishment (a la Daniel Patrick Moynihan's standing up for Israel at the U.N.).

Did you think my feelings towards you are reciprocal? With my dreams of being a WASP novitiate, I could not allow myself to have any strong emotions towards you. Christian (with a Hebrew flavor) charity would be the only correct response.

@Foofie,
Don't try to snow me with more of your bullshit. You respond to him in that snide manner just as you seem to be unable to go for very long without making a snide remark to me about the Irish or about Catholics. You're taking a cheap shot, and in your racist manner, you attempt to tie in some fantasy you have about other peoples' ethnic antecedants. "Chrisitian charity" (which is so often described as cold) is meaningless to me, given that i am not a christian.

I didn't give any thought at all to whether or not your "feelings" toward me are reciprocal, because i don't give a rat's ass. And i am not expressing feelings, i am expressing an opinion based on your posting behavior.

I would guess that the insistence of the Palestineans to only have peace with "the right of return" puts Israel in the poor position of never having peace, or having peace and then being swamped by returning Palestineans to the point that Israel has become a non-Jewish nation. So, Israel not being as stupid as some people might think she is, is doing perhaps a little preventive maintenance, so to speak. Get it? In effect, Palestineans, in my opinion, are their own worst enemy, so to speak, by their recalcitrant peace bargaining. Like the old saying goes, we make our bed, and then we should lie in it.

To that, Pastor Niemoller's oft-quoted homily comes to mind.

Quote:
First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialist
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me

I will speak out for the Palestinians
