Yes to GROOVE! I actually saw Krush Groove believe it or not...

I saw The Hours today after work. GREAT GREAT movie. The first one I've seen in ages that made you think and left you thinking. Wonderful performances from Meryl Streep, Julianne Moore, Ed Harris, and Nicole Kidman blew me away...

Adaptation is next on my list...

I would love to see The Hours. My dear sweet mom and a couple of her friends saw it....and were Shocked However, they did agree it was an excellent film. I don't think I'll be seeing it with my son though Laughing

I am sure that the average teenager would be bored out of his or her mind. Great writing, superb editing, some nice costumes, a few surprises - but no explosions or car chases to speak of!

What did your son think about Adaptation?

He seemed to understand it , or at least get a clear opinion of it. I don't want to spoil it but he understood the end before I did...Here is a hint:The main character gives way to the "hollywood film". Violence, sex etc....NOW, if I can JUST get him to explain the Happy Together song!!! Laughing

MAC! DO NOT MISS About Schmidt on the screen. J.N. was wonderful!!He did not use any of his usual things. He is very very quite. Almost all the acting is in his face!!!

Speaking of The Hours and About Schmidt, there are two articles in tomorrow's (Sunday's) New York Times Arts and Leisure section that you guys might be interested in, if you haven't seen them already. One is by Michael Cunningham (who wrote the novel, The Hours) describing his reaction to the movie based on his book, and the other is by Louis Begley (who wrote the novel that About Schmidt is -- very loosely -- based on), describing his reaction to the movie based on his book. Here are links (which should be good for the next week) to the two articles.

I agree with mac that The Hours is one of the best movies of the year. I was less enthusiastic about About Schmidt, but since so many people whose opinions I respect (including Max) liked the movie, I'm starting to think maybe I was just cranky on the day I saw it. Have you seen jjorge's thread, "Schmidt Happens"? There are some pretty interesting comments about the movie (as well as my somewhat less interesting thoughts about it) on that thread. I haven't yet figured out how to add a link to another A2K thread, but you should be able to find it if you just go to the "Film" forum.

Thanks bree, for the links.

I find that I need to avoid the threads about movies I'm still planning to see. People give away too much of the plot! I'll check out jjorge's topic after I've seen it though...
