Speaking of The Hours and About Schmidt, there are two articles in tomorrow's (Sunday's) New York Times Arts and Leisure section that you guys might be interested in, if you haven't seen them already. One is by Michael Cunningham (who wrote the novel, The Hours) describing his reaction to the movie based on his book, and the other is by Louis Begley (who wrote the novel that About Schmidt is -- very loosely -- based on), describing his reaction to the movie based on
his book. Here are links (which should be good for the next week) to the two articles.

I agree with mac that The Hours is one of the best movies of the year. I was less enthusiastic about About Schmidt, but since so many people whose opinions I respect (including Max) liked the movie, I'm starting to think maybe I was just cranky on the day I saw it. Have you seen jjorge's thread, "Schmidt Happens"? There are some pretty interesting comments about the movie (as well as my somewhat less interesting thoughts about it) on that thread. I haven't yet figured out how to add a link to another A2K thread, but you should be able to find it if you just go to the "Film" forum.
