@Gala,
Actually no - I made reference to them when I stated that they already knew I wanted a cake. Hubby actually went out to get one - but forgot it when purchasing the other items to make my birthday dinner.

In parts of New Guinea chaps give their squeezes shrunken heads on certain anniversaries. It takes ages to shrink one down until it is small enough to hang on the belt.

Cakes from shops are too easy and hardly measure against such dedication.

Worse Wandel: the hospital my brother was born in (Munich) had a policy
to give the first baby of the year 50 bucks. Just 2 minutes before he was born
a girl squeezed in and was born first, so he was "only" the second baby shortly after midnight.....no tax credit and no money either.

When I was almost two years old. We came on a ship and arrived in New York. I believe that Ellis Island was still operating.
