@ehBeth,
There is much psychology involved in raising a "good" cat.

I did well once, the jury is WAY out on the kitten...

(bear is jumping into the fire with both feet)

<or all 3...??>

@Bi-Polar Bear,
Bear, if you want to kill them, don't do it badly... (sorry, I'm a proofreader).

I have always had cats and live trees and no problems. There were even some (unbreakable) round ornaments on the living room floor this year for days; they never moved.

Old mama cat just sleeps and eats these days; Young mama cat is mostly outside; I presume she plays with squirrels. And Kitten-boy snuggles with me or goes outside. He doesn't even trouble the birds any more - they were a real hit with him when they came to live here last summer.

We've always had an artificial tree and our 2 guys have never bothered with it. Occasionally, they may bat at an ornament, but they've been good this year.

Huh? What did you have, purebreds?

Our 2 black and whites spend a lot of time sleeping, especially now they're older, and generally behave quite well.

I can't agree - I find dogs much more needy, cat never follows me around the house or runs to the study window to watch me walk down to the shop - and almost never stands over me with a fluffy toy in its mouth with eyes full of expectancy (for what, I've never figured out).

@Butrflynet,
That really freaked out the kitten...

(big cat is used to God knows what coming from the speakers and just stays back to watch. must go pull her from the drapes...)

Sheeesh! And both TOTALLY WRONG!

My Possumcat has never attacked the tree - I'm much more fun to attack - and jump higher!

My dog was so rowdy, I didn't take a chance on a regular tree for some years. Now she is getting older, I set it up this year. It has been up since Thanksgiving, and she has yet to bother with it. (I have had some very nice cats, and some that killed squirrels, just to leave me a present at the door, but my dog won't let me have one now).

it's just really the one kitten now.... the hell cat, or spawn of Satan as we call her... I've squirted her out of what's left of the tree several times already today.
