@Bi-Polar Bear,
DUUHHH, cats OR trees, cats OR trees. Not both, never. We have a collection of victorian Xmas balls that shall never again see the light of day because we have 2 cats in the house and they are all the same. One way is to keep the tree in one room with a door that can serve as a "cat excluder". This works only as long as you remember to keep it shut.

@farmerman,
Our cat has never attacked our tree - weird (did try to open a present once though). The new kitten comes tomorrow - maybe he'll destroy the tree (or the old cat).

@hingehead,
when theyre kittens, a christmas tree is a world of vertical possibilities. When our MAine Coon was a kitten, you could always find these eyes looking out at you from the tree. Then it was followed by a glass ornament falling and crashing. We now have a ceramic tree that comes in sections

I have a little fake tree. My cat never expressed any interest in it.

@farmerman,
Ha! Our new kitten is a Maine Coone! But we have two vertical carpeted play gymmy sort of things so the cat can 'espress hisself'. I will watch with interest. And a spray bottle.

Hmm....
that doesnt really apply here.
I have 2 cats, a tree and glass bulbs on it.

I make a spray of vinegar + cayenne pepper.
I spray the bottom of the tree with it. They both get one good taste.. and never ever bother it again

Though, my cats are not climbers , nor are they very destructive ( she says while knocking on wood)

@littlek,
I have a young Maine Coon and two other cats. When I put up the little fake tree, the Maine Coon was the only one who expressed interest in it. I used the spray bottle four times, and he hasn't bothered it since. He sleeps under it.

@Rockhead,
I quite like cats, and I've tried living with them, but they're just so freakin' high maintenance.

I'm a good cat-aunt. Visit and go home.
