This Democratic fiasco is going to be very fun to watch. The Democrats are self-immolating even before they get control Laughing Laughing Laughing

Did you see Rep. Bobby Rush immediately tossing down the race card after Blago's press conference? Rush points out that Burris will be the only black senator and literally dares Congress not to seat him. Simultaneously he uses incendiary terms like "don't hang or lynch" Burris in order to cast opposition to Burris' appointment as racist rather than moral indignation to Blago's indiscretions.

And then you have Harry Reid and 50 other Democratic Senators who've painted themselves into a corner by loudly declaring that noone appointed by Blago will be seated in the Senate.

What will happen next in this delightful little Dem soap opera is that the Congressional Black Caucus will throw it's weight behind Burris' appointment, thus putting the first cracks in the Dem's wall of solidarity. It won't be long before various Democratic Senators break ranks with Reid in order to avoid accusations of racism. Reid will desparately try to avoid seating Burris with the support of Republicans and a rapidly decreasing cohort of Democrats. However, Burris and Blago will take the issue to the courts where the courts will side with a legally-elected sitting governor who is "innocent until proven guilty". Reid will be proven totally impotent in controlling his own party which enjoys an almost filibuster-proof majority and be effectively fragged politically by his own party members through their accusations of latent racism.

For even more laughs, take a gander at the comments on the story at HuffPo

Blagojevich: Who Is Advisor B?

"Advisor B pops up again on November 12, in another conversation with Blagojevich. The two discussed forming a non-profit organization to be headed by Blagojevich and funded by some rich Obama supporter. According to the complaint, “Advisor B stated that he likes the idea, but liked the Change to Win option better because, according to Advisor B, from the president-elect’s perspective, there would be fewer ‘fingerprints’ on the president-elect’s involvement with Change to Win, because Change to Win already has an existing stream of revenue and, therefore, ‘you won’t have stories in four years that they bought you off.’”"

Okie question: How does Advisor B know what Obama's perspective about fingerprints is?

@slkshock7,
My question, and I haven't read much yet or researched this or figured this out yet, but why do they hate Burris so much? Why do they not approve of Burris? There has to be more reasons than the mere fact that Blago picked him.

@okie,
Actually, I think it is strictly because of Blago...They'd prefer him to quietly and quickly resign so they could assume the moral high ground of having dispatched corruption in their Party and yet retain the seat without taking the risk of a special election. As long as Blago continues in the capacity of Governor, he is an embarrasment and largely puts to the lie all their arguments of Republican corruption that won them two election cycles.

@slkshock7,
That has to be part of it, but maybe there is more to this than meets the eye, but maybe it is entirely as you describe? I just think this is extremely fascinating, it is akin to a bunch of Democrats trying to figure out how to de-activate a time bomb and remove it from public scrutiny before it blows up in their face, and it is putting out alot of stinky smoke now.

If any serious Democrat was honest, they could see the obvious hyporcrisy surrounding this entire case. Alot of ironies here for anyone that cares, such as Obama and his people are totally innocent, according to his internal report prepared by his lawyer of course, while Blago has already been tried and convicted by public opinion for trying to sell Obama's senate seat, that according to Fitzgeralds tapes, indictment, etc. Just who was Blago trying to sell his senate seat to, and did Blago simply have all about that in his own head and between himself and his assistant, Harris? I guess the Democrats screaming for Blago to resign have no curiosity about the answer to that question.

@okie,
Here's part of Burris' history that probably also doesn't sit well with Dems trying to avoid even the slightest implication that politics is a retail business in Illinois...

Quote:
The former Illinois Attorney General gave $4,500 to Blagojevich's campaign fund in the form of personal donations and donations from -- what appear to be -- him and his wife, according to Illinois State records. The most recent donation came on June 27, 2008, when the governor was knee-deep in charges of ethical misconduct.

Burris also attended high-end Blagojevich fundraisers on at least three separate occasions, according to a review of newspaper filings by the Huffington Post. Most recently, in July 2008, he was in a crowd of 1,000 at the Chicago's River East Art Center when Blagojevich -- beset by ethics scandals -- hosted one of six events to raise money for his campaign fund (which had suffered because of mounting legal bills).

In April 2006, Burris hosted a 3,000 person event in the main hall of Chicago's Field Museum. That event saw Blagojevich soliciting donations of $1,000 for "sponsors" $2,500 for "patrons," $5,000 for "benefactors" and $10,000 for "co-chairs," according to the invitation.

In July 2005, Burris was one of more than 1,000 people who attended Blagojevich's annual political fund-raiser. That year, the governor -- who had defeated Burris in the gubernatorial primary just three years earlier -- raised a reported $4 million.

That Burris showed up at these events and donated to the governor's campaign would not, under normal circumstances, be remarkable. Neither is the extent of his own donations, which are relatively paltry by Illinois standards. After all, Democrats help fellow Democrats. But Blagojevich was mired in ethics complaints at the time of the latter fundraisers. Moreover, the governor stands accused of attempting to sell the Illinois Senate seat in a pay-for-play scheme. To achieve complete legitimacy, anyone appointed to take Obama's seat will need to have offered no financial help whatsoever to the governor.

UPDATE: ArchPundit has more on the donations made from Burris to Blagojevich's campaign fund. In this case: more than $10,000 was donated from the former A.G.'s consulting and lobbying shop, Burris & Lebed, to the governor. The site also has a rundown on the state contracts that Burris' firm has received.

Burris, in his introductory press conference today, dismissed a question about the money he has raised and donated to Blagojevich, saying that the total figures seemed too high for his firm's budget.

@slkshock7,
I have another theory, a possibility, a longshot, but there is the possibility that the Dems will decide to publicly condemn Blago as they started to do, but behind the scenes support his defense so as to prevent him from spilling the beans. Can they really allow this guy to take the fall alone and tell all? Even this appointment could all be part of the game. Just a possibility to consider, but I would not throw any possiblity out if there is any risk at all that this all could ensnare Obama. I am sure that all the Democratic power brokers are feverishly trying to prevent a total meltdown if one is possible. If the public Democrat condemnation tones down and becomes less vocal, and they begin to say oh, there isn't anything we can do, just let this play itself out, let Fitzgerald do his thing, and meanwhile we will have to live with him, then I think this theory should be looked at.

@okie,
logic suggests that Obama could not be completely clean, after all if Illinois politics are as described then no one could rise up the ladder without the aid of the pay to play program. It could well be that Obama was never in on it, it might be that his supporters and friends got him in without telling him how they did it.

@Rockhead,
If you do not have an inquiring mind, Rocky, I would simply suggest you quit worrying about it. Do not be bothered with politics, as it apparently is not interesting to you, and thus you have no capacity to look at all the possible angles. As I said, go back to your music and get some sleep.

@hawkeye10,
yeah, fear of collateral damage to Obama is probably driving a lot of the Dem hair-pulling right now. If this Blago embarassment isn't put to bed quickly and completely, the implications and investigations could dog Obama for a long, long time. He could be facing his own "Whitewater" scandal...a tool that Repubs could and most certainly would, ride throughout the Obama presidency.

Here's something even more amusing (it's been a good night)...

Evidently Roland Burris has somewhat of an ego...he's already built a monument to himself... and named his children Roland II and Rolanda...

The funny thing about Burris is that, should he be seated, he would be a much better senator than any of the Reps. The latter marched lockstep with Bush and Cheney to the country's disastrous fall.

Actually, logic has little to do with your statement. You start with an unproven statement then reach a conclusion based solely on your unproven assumption.

Here is an example of your "logic."

Logic suggests that pigs fly out of hawkeye's butt, after all if his butt is as described then pigs must fly out of it.

@joefromchicago,
What is great about this story is that Blago is one self-centered, mean mofo.

It's not surprising that someone so fond of the "F-Word" is a fiesty bastard. ****, his wife must be one tough bitch too.

He picked Burris in a clear "f-you" response to Reid and the other Senate Demo-turds.

Fortunately for Reid, he has a semi-black PE stating he is righteous.

So here's what it comes down to:

Reid & Co want nothing to do with anything even remotely associated with radioactive Blago.

Blago is still the Gov., and he's a fiesty SOB.

It is highly questionable whether or not the Senate can refuse the seating of Burris. Reid & Co will declare they want no part of Blago's taint, but their impetus will be pure politics rather than rationality.

As long as Burris denounces Blago, as he has, how can Reid & Co deny him the seat? Racism?!

How effin sweet. Pelosi and her droogs denounced the "Republican Culture of Corruption," and now they have to deal with a long list of corrupt Demo-turds.

I don't know that she is, herself, corrupt, but I know she is a powerful politician and so I have to assume some measure of corruption..

No matter though - her job now is to distance her party from the numerous bad eggs: Jefferson, Rangel, Blago, et al.

What fun.

A Democratic problem and so enjoyable.
