poppy might have heart problems and the incident well could be classified as a mini-stroke.
or it might be that she is epileptic. it happened to my cocker spaniel Shiney a number of times before i put her on phenobarbitol, which prevented future attacks.
good luck with poppy, and hug her once for me.
kuvasz, is that one of your dogs (your avatar) or just an anonymous beauty. Either way, what a great looking puppy!
Piffka wrote:Whew. Had a weird afternoon. We took the doglets for a walk at the off-leash area. Were about 1/3 mile in and suddenly Poppy, the black chow, starts veering off to the left and stumbling... to the point where she falls over and cannot get up.
Freaked me out, I thought she was going to die. We tried to hold her, but things didn't seem to get any better. So PFK picked her up and prepared to carry her all the way back. After less than five minutes he had to put her down for a minute.. she is a big dog and was struggling. She shook and then started walking. Walked fine and appears to be fine now. The Vets, of course, are closed 'til Thursday.
I'm still a little shaken and have to leave soon for a New Year's event. Luckily, she seems reasonably normal, but oddly tired. Why me, oh lord, why me? Have searched the internet -- apparently this vertigo or loss of balance happens and they usually get over it quickly. Supportive care recommended.... also antibiotics in case of ear infection.
<Can I roll my eyes now?>
piffka--That is scary. This happened to a dog I had many years ago. I thought he was dying, as well. We watched and waited after it happened, and it never did again. Hope your story ends the same way.
Please report if you go to a vet. Would like to know what causes this.
'Tis happenings such as that which you have described that make me believe in the concept of fate.
She was truly a gorgeous pup, kuvasz. Just saw your photo of two of your doggies on another thread -- they, too, are beauties. Wonderful looking breed (but then I have a thing for Hungarians -- I married one).
Kuvasz, that is one small tub.
Just a little bit. That's a great picture, too. Is she waiting for a bath or trying to stay cool?
The ability to post photos is one of my favorite things about A2K. It's so much nicer to be able to see those pups!
Hmmm? Maybe it's just one big dog.
Hi Bandylu
the tub is Kodi's hiding place whenever she hears thunder., and since its raining and thundering here tonight, well, she's in the tub as i type.
Hey, roger. How ya doing? Saw your kitty kat photo the other day, too. I'm basically a doggy person, but that was a cute kittie.
She sure doesn't look scared, kuvasz. Our golden opts for anyplace close to Daddy when it thunders here. The closer the better (and when he's not around she'll settle for me, but she's not especially happy about it). Why is it the big doggies are the ones who are most afraid of noises????
Thanks. Sweet disposition too, but has a few too many hyperactive hours in the morning for an office cat.
Never having had an office cat (or even known one), I can't relate. But it seems to me that the cat's hyperactivity might rub off on some of the employees and that might be a good thing?
He's been a very good thing for that office, believe me.
We had all three dogs at the office/gallery today. Ay yi yi, Caramba, whatta zoo. Still, it does my heart good to see Pacco snarling with bared teeth at Derby the Dobie, and vice versa, all in controlled play, it makes Pacco so happy he can hardly stand it. Hard to work on specifications at the same time though. I never understood such a thing as play snarling before. In dogs, I mean.
Happy New Year, all.
Piffka, Scary. How's Poppy doing? Did you take her to the vet? Is she ok. Please keep us posted.
Kuvasz, What a gorgeous dog. And what a wonderful story of fate, kismet, serendipity, whatever. Say hi to AJA II and Kodi for me.
Osso, Glad to hear the Pacco is holding his own. Snarling and teeth baring with the bigger dogs.
Roger, I've known several office cats. They have been very well behaved. Glad to hear that there's one shaking things up a bit. Since I work at home, I suppose that Mikey could be considered an office cat. He's not the ideal cat for the job. Aside from being a bit overly rambunctious, he's chewed up more than a few business-related papers. "Uh, hi. It's Roberta. Did you want that style sheet back?"
Hi everybody. That is one small bathtub or one big white dog!!!
Thanks for your ideas & thoughts regarding Poppy. So far, no sign of any further problem. I'll be talking to the vet tomorrow. I'd love to think we never go through that experience again. Scary.
I noticed our resident cat was very sweet to Poppy all day. Could he tell? He was licking her ears (when she'd let him) and just staying close. On the other hand he won't tolerate Poppy's sister anywhere near him.
Piffka, Glad that there has been no recurrence. Still a trip to the vet seems wise. So the cat was nice to Poppy? Must be interspecies sensitivity.
I've always thought cats were particularly sensitive. Stripe is now in the office with me, meowing his head off. Can only assume he is thinking it's time for more food.
