This is huge - 100% effective vaccinations in trial cases.....
Sounds great to me. Let's hope that the results hold up over time.
Keeping my fingers crossed.
K, I just saw this on the news, and the initial testing seems so very positive!!!!!
It is truely a great and wonderful thing.
The procedure should work, if the virus has a low rate of spontaneous mutation. Papilloma virus isn't as wild as the HIV!
follow up says that the vaccine is still showing good results.

Thanks for posting this littlek
Here's finally some new news on this vaccine. It just needs to be passed and regulated by the FDA.
LA Times
Excellent!
Let's hope the FDA comes through -- not necessarily a given.
The article suggests that they are likely to pass it. There are issues to be decided like whether to make it a mandatory vaccination, whether to vaccinate only young girls (where the drug seems most effective) or to include women as well.
Hmmmm............. my momma always said if it looks too good to be true it probably is.
thalidomide anyone?
Vaccines have been under serious fire for a couple decades (at least). I can't imagine they'd allow for that type of mistake again. Vaccines are very very tested.
But then there would be fewer consequences to sex! Because everyone knows that young people are terribly worried about what might happen when they're 45! Whaaaaaaaaaa!
You have to ask?
Satire, actually, because I actually heard someone on the radio worrying that this would lead to more sex.
Hmmm.... Would the world be better with more sex and less cancer, or not?
Drewdad - I totally agree. Yes, some people are concerned that this vaccine would be like condoning teen sex. Don't really get that point.
Got to go.....
Yeah, that's the angle I worry about, FDA-wise.
The LA Times article seems to indicate it should be fine. We'll see.
The article did say that there were birth defects for some women who took it, so that gives me a little pause. (Seemed to indicate that they may have been pregnant when they took it...?)
But we have a history of cervical cancer in my family (my mom), so I'll be watching it carefully and hopefully things will be very clear about its safety by the time sozlet comes of age.
Soz, the vaccine prevents cervical cancer which has as it's root cause the human papilloma virus. The vaccine is actually a vaccine to ward off genital warts. So..... I'm guessing (?) that your mom had a different cause.....?
New results indicate that the vaccine can prevent more than 3/4 of future infections of and deaths from the HP virus. In england, recommendations will be that all women get the vaccine (which I favor). Unfortunately, as far as I know, we are still restricting the vaccine to adolescents and teens. I should have asked at my last physical.
