Many thanks in advance for your help.

One breezy morning, Qiao Hao was going to school. He was waiting at the bus stop for the bus. Soon he met his form teacher, Mr Lim, who was also waiting at the bus stop.

A few minutes later, the bus arrived. It was very crowded with passengers. Qiao Hao was lucky to get a seat. At the next bus stop, an old man boarded the bus. He looked feeble and walked with slow steps. All the seats were occupied, so he had to stand. Qiao Hao decided to help him. He offered his seat to him. The old man was grateful and thanked him for his kindness.

After a few stops, Qiao Hao and his teacher alighted from the bus. Near the school, he saw an old woman carrying a basket full of groceries. Qiao Hao walked quickly to her as he wanted to help her. He carried the basket of groceries across the road for her. After that, Qiao ran to school as he was afraid of being late.

In the class, Mr Lim told Qiao Hao to stand in front of the class. He was frightened as he thought that the teacher was going to scold him. Instead, he praised him for being helpful to an elderly male passenger and an old woman. He gave up his seat on the bus to the old man and carried the heavy basket of groceries across the road for the old woman. Mr Lim urged Qiao Hao’s classmates to emulate him.

When Mr Lim had finished talking, all the pupils clapped their hands. They were proud of Qiao Hao.

@contrex,
Hi Contrex

Many thanks for your corrections. You've indeed improved on the text.

I've two things I need clarification.

1. At the next stop, an old man boarded (the bus).
2. After a few stops, Qiao Hao and his teacher alighted from the bus.

Why in #1 'boarded', but in #2 'alighted from the bus'? Please see extract below:

A few minutes later, the bus arrived. It was very crowded and Qiao Hao was lucky to get a seat. At the next stop, an old man boarded. He looked feeble and walked with slow steps.

After a few stops, Qiao Hao and his teacher alighted from the bus.

Many thanks for your help.

You are right, the words "from the bus" are superfluous, since we know already that Q H and his teacher are in a bus.

@tanguatlay,

After a few stops, Qiao Hao and his teacher alighted. Near the school, he saw an old woman, with a basket full of groceries, waiting to cross the road . Qiao Hao walked quickly to her and carried the basket of groceries while she crossed. After that, Qiao ran to school as he was afraid of being late.

At school, Mr Lim told Qiao Hao to stand in front of the class. He was frightened as he thought that the teacher was going to scold him. Instead, he praised him for being helpful to the elderly male passenger and the old woman. Mr Lim urged Qiao Hao’s classmates to emulate him.

The school must be rather severe if a good boy like Qiao Hao was scared of being scolded by the teacher! Is that how schools are run in your country?
