My daughter wrote a compositon on 'The Saddest Day of My Life'.

She ended her sentence "That was the saddest day of my life" after describing what was sad.

My question is should she ended her composition with "That is (not was) the saddest day of my life" because it will be her saddest day until another sadder day falls on her.

I would like to know if I am right.

Thank you very much.

@tanguatlay,
It should be was as the day is over. The feelings are still there, but that is something else.

@tanguatlay,
I completely agree with Saab. The day no longer "is." When it "was", it was the saddest day of her life.

@Merry Andrew,

I agree. "Was" makes more sense there.

That was the nicest meal I've ever eaten. (it's finished)

@McTag,
Either is or was. It is the topmost element in a list of sad days. It was a sad day.
