And anyway--are they not free and autonomous enough to choose to be well behaved if that is what they feel is in their best interests?
"Well behaved" might be defined, which Eleanor forgot to bother doing, as what it takes to keep the fellah on board. Not testing his patience beyond its natural limits. The objective being to control the silly sod whilst allowing him to think he is in control.
And anyway again--who is to say who "makes history"? Hitler's Mum sure did make some history. Contrary to rumours he was not hatched out by the heat of the sun. He bawled in a cradle.
