@RexRed,
I see it as a slanted ancient history book that one can prove whatever idea they want to get across whether true or untrue.

I see it as a book that reflects what some of the people where thinking at the time. Whether any of it is true or not "I try to use history, anthropology, archeology, science and branches of philosophy to come as close as possible in revealing the truth. Smile

I did not say that at all. You were talking about our ancestors. I conceded you may have a point, but disagreed with your terminology based on your obsession with sociopaths.

You then made it intensely personal, you know I'm anxious about my daughter going to China, so you decided to discuss the likelihood of her being raped over there. You didn't talk theoretically about how I would feel about my own children, you deliberately chose something that you knew would cause distress.

For your information, I've always opposed rape and believe all rapists should feel the full force of the law. And, if anyone were raped I think the last thing they would be concerned about would be whether or not the rapist was a sociopath. They would want justice, not some ridiculous psychobabble about socipaths.

You have a very nasty habit of storing away nuggets of personal information to use to cause distress. You don't seem to be capable of empathy, and I'm beginning to think your obsession with sociopaths is because you share certain traits with them. You only seem happy when you inflict pain and distress on others.

Now I'm going to put you on ignore because not only do you make my flesh creep, you've got nothing of any importance to say. You're just obsessed with the simplistic notion that sociopaths are responsible for all that's wrong with the world, and **** anyone else who disagrees with you.

@RexRed,
Rex, you've had a lot of problems with religious fanatics who clearly have little regard for your human rights. Do you really think the correct way to deal with this is to deny them their human rights?

You'll just end up becoming what you hate.

@RABEL222,
Words have general meanings that cannot easily be evaded. Even though some choose to expand their meanings the basic intent is often still quite clear...

Most biblical words interpret themselves right where they are written and need little further research...

As for difficult passages, some scholars choose to exalt these difficult passages above the many clear, matter of fact passages while they simultaneously twist their meanings...

In general, 90% of the Bible is quite literal and the meaning clear as a bell...
The bible proves itself as barbaric beyond any shadow of a doubt... Just because a few passages are obscure, they can never save the book from its barrage of clear passages of highly evident hate.

Just because a few passages seem loft and truthful they can never expunge the scope of barbarism with the book's deity.

To ignore this barbarism and still cling futilely to this God is nothing more than a mental illness.

Did you know that U.S. taxpayers send almost $300 billion a year in federal contract dollars to businesses in states that don't protect LGBT Americans from workplace discrimination? Freedom to Work is urging President Obama to sign an executive order barring anti-LGBT discrimination among federal contractors. You can sign their petition by clicking here: http://chn.ge/wVSxRh

@RexRed,
Religion has "never" respected human rights. They all believe their god is on their side - and ask for his support when they go to war or in sports.

@izzythepush,
Izzy I sent you a pm rather than address this issue here so that you would truly know what my thoughts were on the matter but being I study human behavior I found it interesting that someone had thumbed up your post and was interested in if that person would comment on why.

@reasoning logic,
This is a painting of Henry the 8th a past king of England. The Roman Catholic Church forbade Henry to divorce so he started his own church in order to make divorce legal. This redefined marriage to, divorce as many wives as you want to produce an heir. It relegated marriage to seemingly procreation only...

Henry broke England away from the Roman Catholic Church and started the Church of England for the sole reason of being able to legally divorce multiple women.

A simple way of remembering the fate of each of the six wives :
Divorced, beheaded, died
Divorced, beheaded, survived

This same Church Of England today is refusing to allow marriage equality saying it is "redefining marriage"... go figure...

@izzythepush,
In defending my human rights to a fundamentalist Christian does that make me a fundamentalist Christian too?

I don't think so...

In not defending my rights does that make me a victim?

Damned if I do damned if I don't...

I prefer to not be a victim of religious dogma... either way.

If it means limiting access to hateful literature and educational practices then, so be it... None of these books are THE WORD OF GOD, ALLAH OR JEHOVAH... They are the words of fear mongers, women haters, racists and pedophiles...

Yes it is a slippery slope limiting hate literature... but it is a much worse slope allowing religion to run rampant and destroy future generations of our society. It is not the mere reading of these books I object to it is the indoctrination of them...

Books that promote Jihad by their apostles are no better than running around with a gun shooting up the neighborhood. Words of mass destruction...

Do we not in rudimentary ways limit free speech?

Free speech was first limited when someone ran into a movie theater and screamed, "Fire!" People were trampled to death in the process of scrambling for the exits... The laws were changed to protect citizens... Are not LGBT people citizens too? I am not going to be ashamed for standing up for my LGBT family... I am not going to be ashamed for calling a spade a spade or proclaiming the obvious that, the emperor has no clothes...

How may LGBT people need to be trampled to death by these hateful books till the unholy books are seen for what they are.

Terrorism...

Not trying to put them down but they do not seem to be as educated as us but I truly do not think that morality is a complex issue, it has only been complicated by others who have tried to deceive us.
