My Best Friend Is Fighting For Her Life

About 3 hours ago my beautiful and much cherished Dobermann was bitten by a brown snake. There were 5 of us out in the yard with her and nobody saw any snake, or any bite. The first thing we were alerted to was when she collapsed and rolled 4 times down the incline of the yard. I witnessed that, and thought she just tripped but when I went to help her up (she will be 12 years old early next year) she didn't move and was struggling to breath. I panicked and called my husband, who rushed her to the vet. She was in a coma-like state, with her eyes twitching back and forth rapidly.

At the vet, a blood test was performed which showed no clotting, indicating the presence of the often-fatal brown snake venom. She was transferred to the animal hospital, and I am anxiously awaiting to see if she pulls through.
She has her age against her, and we experienced this around 5 years ago when our Staffordshire Bull Terrier was bitten by a brown. He did not make it through the night, so I am feeling very pessimistic.

I love my dog so much, and I know some people who aren't "dog people" don't get it, but she is my world. I don't know how I will cope if I lose Jade, and I know I have to be strong for my boys.

Jade, I am thinking of you non-stop. Every tear I shed is for you, old girl. The Rainbow Bridge is not ready for a big personality like yours, and I am not ready for you to leave me. Please pull through, baby girl.

@Dogz,
Hello Dogz,

I am so sorry that you have to go through this, and I keep my fingers crossed
that Jade will make it through this. Most of us here are animal lovers and
have experienced the loss of a beloved pet, so you're in good hands here.
We'll keep you company through this.

What part of the country are you living in to have brown snakes?

@CalamityJane,
I'd never heard of them. They are found in Massachusetts and Australia, at the least, CJ.

@CalamityJane,
Thanks Calamity Jane. I am in Queensland, Australia. I think the proper name is Eastern Brown Snake. Unfortunately in summer they make an appearance, along with non-venomous whip and tree snakes.

I have noticed a lot of dog lovers here, and I guess I just wanted to talk to someone about it. I don't know how I'll sleep tonight. I have grown up with dogs, and they play an important part in my life.

I can do nothing but wait. I want to go and see her now. Just give her some pats and let her know I'm there. I am trying not to ph the vet, as I am sure there is no change yet, but I just want to hear that everything will be ok.

Will write again when I know more, or need to "talk" again. Thank you for your kind words.

When I saw the thread and the name of the snake I said to myself "I hope shes not talking about the Australian Brown".

Oh man, Im really sorry. There is often a brave and sad decision you may just have to make and you must think o nly of alleviating the suffering of your dobie. Is there any hope at all?

Thank you for the info about the brown snake, JTT.

Dogz, you seem to have quite a bit of them in Australia, and I just read
that with first-aid and anti-venom the chances are good for survival.
I sincerely hope, Jade does get her chance to live.

There are now probably some dozen people here in North America praying for Jade, yours truly included. That has to have some impact. Be strong, Dogz.

@Dogz,
A2K is filled with animal lovers. I live alone and my two young doggies died this year, so I know what you are going through.

I hope your dog can recover without ill effect. No matter what happens, I hope you cherish your memories between you and doggie.
