Why, "loose shoes, tight sex, and a warm place to go to the bathroom."

no, that was Earl Butz channeling through me.

btw A lot of people vote for a person because they believe that he/she has similar perspectives on reality and hope in being so will react to potential situations the same way as a voter would. In actuality, they consider the elected person to function en loco suffragium

@maporsche,
You should be asking the same question of McCain/Palin.

@cicerone imposter,
why, I already voted for Obama. and I think McCain has done a better job answering these questions. He even said "spending freeze".

@maporsche,
I am seriously curious; why did you vote for Obama? Just so you will be able to complain about him disappointing you ahead of time? I mean no one was holding a gun to your head, was they? What made you decide not to vote for McCain when you voted for all other republicans listed?

I hope he follows through with his health care plan and congress passes it and it becomes implemented sooner rather than later. And I hope he follows through with plans in Iraq to withdrawal responsibly.

(CI; good post a few posts back)

@revel,
Mainly for his healtcare plan. Hillary's was 10x better, but Obama's is at least a little better than McCain's. Also, the republicans have pissed me off with their fiscal management over the last 8 years. Completely unacceptable. The war used to be an issue for me, but I honestly think that Obama or McCain would take the same amount of time to withdraw from Iraq.

Also, while I don't think a McCain presidency would be anywhere near as bad as Bush's was/is, I do *hope* that Obama could be a great president. I don't think McCain could be great, he would be decent, but I do think Obama *could* be great. I'm more realistic than most I think about Obama's 'greatness', but I do hope he will be.

Revel, I've always considered you somewhat of a wingnut; your post to me right now sort of cements it in my eyes. You're basically saying that I shouldn't be critical of Obama or his promises. I think you're pretty much on your own there.

As far as voting for republicans in Illinois; have you ever been here? This is probably the most liberal state in the country. I will always vote to bring balance to my state and my country. The best presidents govern from the middle, and the best states operate on the same principles. Illinois is way too far left; if it gets too far right I'll vote for democrats here again.

@maporsche,
In Illinois democrat, republican dosent make any differance. They all are sent to jail after their term of office. All that is required of politicians is that they be crooked.

@maporsche,
I am sure you are not alone in considering me a wingnut. Shrugs. The reason I brought up how it seems you have done nothing but basically say Obama better not disappoint you right after you said you voted him and you said at least McCain said he was going to put a spending freeze to answer the current financial crises; I just honestly wondered why you didn't vote for McCain. I mean at least give him a chance to get in office before being disappointed in him.

But after reading your post you are more or less saying since Hillary didn't win and you have been disappointed in the republicans and the Bush administration and you like Obama's health care plan better than McCain, I understand. You more or less voted against Bush and the republicans and their current policies rather than for Obama. Fair enough.

This is an accurate enough summation. If Republicans ever go back to what I've read about Barry Goldwater's policies/views, they'll probably get my vote more often than not. But these republicans over the last 8 years have been terrible.

@Bi-Polar Bear,
BPB: very eloquently said. Not that it matters THAT much to me what the world thinks, but the embarassment factor around the world is such a slap in the face. It stands to reason that a powerful nation will be resented by many worldwide...but those ill-fated, ill-conceived forays in Iraq and Afghanistan are just so wrong-headed, I can understand those countries' bad attitudes.

More importantly, the lack of some countries cooperation, the imbalance in trade, and the increase in world tension that has occured is at least partly related to those who(m?) have been in the White House and Congress over the last 8 years. They all should be taken to the shed and publicly horse-whipped and broadcast over world TV. If only we could find a horse willing enough.

A horse, a horse - my kingdom for a horse.

@Green Witch,
I would agree, but since pretty much my entire adult life has been under Bush I don't have much else to compare Republicans to.

From what I've read/heard about Goldwater, he really seems to hold many of my ideals. I will admit that I haven't done too much research on the man, but what I've seen I've agreed with. Unfortunately he was way before my time.

@maporsche,
Once O-boy is elected (assuming he is) all of us with decent jobs are going to get laid off - I'll be sucking on the unemployment teet - instead of contributing to the tax base. Soon there will be more riding on the wagon than pulling it - the socialist utopia - when the wagon stops. At least I have absolutely no plans on giving back any of my guns. Those that do and give up hunting will create a deer population explosion that I will enjoy immensely. Making lemonaid.

@cjhsa,
congratulations fella, you ought to be relieved, apparrently the state appellate court in michigan decided that being convicted of "“abominable and detestable crime against nature” with a sheep, (MCL 750.158) does not warrant having you being registered under the Sex Offenders Registration Act (“SORA”), MCL 28.721

You are all BO supporters. Just how will BO as president change your PERSONAL LIFE for the better.
And how will he accomplish this??

Okay, I was being facetious before, but since you came back, I'll seriously engage:

Jeremiah, what makes you think that ANY president makes ANYONE'S personal life better? Not many actions taken on the federal level have direct and predictable effects on individual citizens.

But, to humor you:

1, I'll get a tax cut (not that I need one).
2, Universal Health care would help my life considerably.
3, Competent appointees at NASA and the EPA and other agencies, instead of mouth-breathing Republican hacks.

That was easy

@Jeremiah,
actually since i don't consider your question valid, because most people do not vote for a simple quid pro quo from a candidate, but i answered you why i was going to vote for him.

and the reason is since i got married two months ago i am covered by my wife's insurance, but if i had not done so i would be able to respond that it would be because of his commitment towards a national health program for the nation.

our income as a married couple would actually be taxed more under obama because while she holds a job in as lawyer my income comes from being a private business owner and regardless of that, it remains cheaper to be covered by her insurance than get it with my personal bussiness.

is that satisfactory, to vote for a man who actually professes to tax you more because we follow the words of jesus in mathew 25? or you do you not have enough imagination to understand that some people are not greedheads like you are?

btw you disgrace your nom de plume; the prophet jeremiah was for the people.
