If I had gone white water rafting with my friends, I would be / would have been floating down the Colorado River right now.

Should I use 'would be' or 'would have been'?

In that sentence, 'would be' is correct. 'Would have been' indicates that it's a past event. But the 'right now' at the end of the sentence shows that the rafting is going on right now.

No it doesn't; it shows that the floating (as a corpse, presumably) would be going on right now. Read it again.
