Er...can I ask what meaning the sentence is meant to convey?

It is a pretty strange sentence. It can mean that when you awoke you found yourself in the act of cooking meat for him; it can also mean that there was a lump of cooking meat that was asleep and you awakened it for "his" benefit. Either way, the sentence doesn't make much sense.
