@spendius,
Hey fm--run this through your literary licence detection machine--

Quote:
The end of that adventure was that presently I tripped up over a skeleton and found myself lying half stunned amidst trays of treasure, affectionately clasping a skull under the impression that it was Quick’s boot.

Brilliant eh? The evolution field worker on funds.

Queen Sheba's Ring. Chapter X. Quick Lights a Match.

What a book!! Written to get the young lads gobsmacked and the old cocks tittering. It's not meant for ladies though.

@spendius,
From the Book of Enoch.

Quote:
6

And it came to pass when the children of men had multiplied that in those days were born unto them beautiful and comely daughters. And the angels, the children of the heaven, saw and lusted after them, and said to one another: 'Come, let us choose us wives from among the children of men and beget us children.' And Semjâzâ, who was their leader, said unto them: 'I fear ye will not indeed agree to do this deed, and I alone shall have to pay the penalty of a great sin.' And they all answered him and said: 'Let us all swear an oath, and all bind ourselves by mutual imprecations not to abandon this plan but to do this thing.' Then sware they all together and bound themselves by mutual imprecations upon it. And they were in all two hundred; who descended in the days of Jared on the summit of Mount Hermon, and they called it Mount Hermon, because they had sworn and bound themselves by mutual imprecations upon it. And these are the names of their leaders: Samîazâz, their leader, Arâkîba, Râmêêl, Kôkabîêl, Tâmîêl, Râmîêl, Dânêl, Êzêqêêl, Barâqîjâl, Asâêl, Armârôs, Batârêl, Anânêl, Zaqîêl, Samsâpêêl, Satarêl, Tûrêl, Jômjâêl, Sariêl. These are their chiefs of tens.
7

And all the others together with them took unto themselves wives, and each chose for himself one, and they began to go in unto them and to defile themselves with them, and they taught them charms and enchantments, and the cutting of roots, and made them acquainted with plants. And they became pregnant, and they bare great giants, whose height was three thousand ells: Who consumed all the acquisitions of men. And when men could no longer sustain them, the giants turned against them and devoured mankind. And they began to sin against birds, and beasts, and reptiles, and fish, and to devour one another's flesh, and drink the blood. Then the earth laid accusation against the lawless ones.
8

And Azâzêl taught men to make swords, and knives, and shields, and breastplates, and made known to them the metals of the earth and the art of working them, and bracelets, and ornaments, and the use of antimony, and the beautifying of the eyelids, and all kinds of costly stones, and all colouring tinctures. And there arose much godlessness, and they committed fornication, and they were led astray, and became corrupt in all their ways. Semjâzâ taught enchantments, and root-cuttings, 'Armârôs the resolving of enchantments, Barâqîjâl (taught) astrology, Kôkabêl the constellations, Êzêqêêl the knowledge of the clouds, Araqiêl the signs of the earth, Shamsiêl the signs of the sun, and Sariêl the course of the moon. And as men perished, they cried, and their cry went up to heaven...

We better hope ol' Enoch was a crap prophet.

So, this will be a elllllllection year for a governoor of Indina. So, Im thinking that it an volley infavor of the "God Fearing GOP candidate"

Perhaps though, the legislature is just pqcked full of Fundamenatlist douche bags who want Biblical literalim to be taught in SCience classes.

FRom Daniels "State of the Union" rebuttal the other night, he wasnt very compelling in his analysis. Could it be that this legislation would actually pass the governors desk without veto?

@farmerman,
Why was he not very compelling in his analysis? The bald assertion to that effect is worthless on a science thread.

Mr Staver said "The people behind this are very educated, they're committed, they believe they're right, and they aren't going to compromise." No "douche bags" there.

Underestimating the opposition is caused by too much sitting duck practice.

No problem, I see this as an indictment more of your lack of comprehension skills .

Plenty of douche bags to go around, especially snce the legislation has been proposed and is out of committee. DO you think our state legislature politicians are more science savvy and insiteful than are your MP's ?

I see that youve got some of these same Hoynhimms in local UK politics and school boards. Yet, despite all the news coverage and hub bub, none of the religious initiatives to infiltrate the schools get too far beyond some initial clips.
In the US , however, we have a history of taking these initiatives to ridiculous heights where legislatures, despite the clear directions set by court precedent, will try to blaze some new ROW by which religion and minority doctrines can be shoved onto our way of life.
Im confident that, once the crap is all settled (even if the law passes and the gov signs it which is a big if as I said) the courts will exact a clear definition and the douche bags will once again be sent back behind the wainscotting for yet another 5 to 10 year interval .

@farmerman,
From what I understand fm yours is the minority doctrine. And from all you say it looks like no religious doctrines have been shoved onto your way of life. The elements of religious doctrine you adhere to, significant ones, have been chosen by you on a selective basis off a menu. The ultimate heresy.

Court precedent would strongly argue against your belief there spendi. Besides, the US Constitution, which endorsed a Constitutional Republic, not a Democracy, has an accompanying "How to" manual in the Federalist Papers. In which the Federalist Papers clearly rail against the tyranny of the "Mob"

You really need to think all that stuff about the Inquisition out of your head and focus on the dramatic transformation brought about by industrialism. There are inquisitions now.

If I were you, I too would want to remove any genetic memory of the Roman Inquisition or the previous Two.

Ill criticize your thinking later, Ive gotta go to work now.

Here's another one I respectfully suggest you look in to. Start with the Wikipedia entry on Father Pierre Teilhard de Chardin S.J. You might pay some attention to the noosphere idea.

The guy should interest you. He was a geologist and pal(a)eontologist with very extensive experience.

I don't buy it myself but it is interesting and, as you will see if you read the entry in Wiki (maybe 15 minutes plus linking "noosphere") quite influential.

It might show you that your ignorant references to the Catholic Church are beside the point. I think you are fascinated by torture instruments but you conveniently forget that torture was applied to every source of socially destabilising activity in the long gone days you continually buttress your argument with. Cervantes suggests it was a form of public entertainment.

Darwinian evolution is passe. Nothing about origins, nothing before sexual reproduction, nothing about the future, logically flawed because a description of an evolving series does not explain it and morally flawed because it has nothing to offer and sociologically because it is unacceptable to the vast majority of mankind. Unacceptable to a large majority of Americans who pay taxes to fund education. **** the judges. You're judgestruck. What do judges know about these things? All they know is how to promote the legal profession. If they didn't live good Christian lives they would never get past their confirmation hearings.

gunga is kind calling it bullshit. It is moribund bullshit.

I think Judge Jones should be struck off for regaling the citizens with a long winded farrago of banality and tautology. And having them pay for it.

@spendius,
we arent given accolades for our educations, we are given accolades for what we DO with our educations
Do you recall that we discussed Teilhard several years ago? I believe you were involved with your normally inane comments. Teilhard was , in his early days, doing excavations of Tertiary mammalian fossils. SDuring this time he met DAwson and together, many say, they came up with the concept of Piltdown Man , a noreable fraud which invloved the "marrying " of skull fragments from several hominid and capri species and , in order to cover up the marriage, they doused the "fossils" with Potassium Pwrmanganate which gave a brown dye upon oxidation.
Ive got very little resepect for out and out fraud in science. (SOmething you should be familiar with for the IDesr are simply run amok with frauds).
The CAtholic Chrurch ahd, since Pope Pius 11, rehabilitated Teilhard and made some room foor him the their halls of great Catholic Minds.

Dont remember do you? each day is a fresh slate to you, I think it may be your advanced age or the beer, or both.

That's a farrago of nonsense fm being, as it is, resting upon the rather shaky foundation of a "many say". No doubt after reading your post many more will say it. Which just goes to show have fast "manysays" can breed and how well adapted they are to an environment in which the undermining of Christian sexual morality is the general ambience.

@farmerman,
I thought you might be interested in the famed Jesuit.

He's among those who spotted that the "clerkly" elite lost caste by the coming of mass literacy and has now been reduced, to stay afloat, to weaving the winds about such things as the meaning of meaning and the relativity of nothingness and can now no longer be understood by even themselves never mind the rest of us.

It struck me that such a notion might give you pause for thought regarding rendering the masses scientifically literate and reducing the scientific caste to such a state of ordinariness that even ros and yourself, to say nothing of ci., can consider yourselves to be included in it.

It's a non-starter-- the ladies won't put up with it. We have been working on distancing ladies from the scientific method for a very long time. If you don't know why what can I say?

After all, a true elite has an esoteric knowledge pantry with which to control things. Once we all share in the scientific elite's nutrient bed we will get nothing but scientifically literate people and the thought of them splitting hairs with attenuated attention towards every jot and tittle of the scientific method as they go about their daily doings is unbearable to even think of unless one feels duty bound to elaborate a little upon it for educational purposes. Not only would there be nothing else but the elite will have flatulently diffused.

It has happened with food and golf. All sorts of things. Having a 4-course meal in a dining room was posh once and thus the simple fact of having it was sufficient unto itself. There was no need for the likes of Nigella Lawson and her palette of sauces and effects to render it posh. Superior like. You know? Like wot you is. That stuff arrives as soon as we all can have 4-course meals in dining rooms. That's when the fun starts with the hair-splitting. When everybody's posh.

Just the same with the literacy of the clerks, schoolmen and scholars and the scientific literacy of the elite of science. The process is underway as you might have noticed. I keep out of pubs where the trend is developed. Especially on ******* Quiz Nite.

@spendius,
I presume you have seen Prof. Brian Cox do his stuff on TV flattering all the nerdy brainboxes by allowing them to believe that the universe and the reality of all things is within their mental compass. I fell off the sofa once coughing and spluttering after one of his mystical rants.

The BBC are complaining that there are too few lady presenters on TV science programmes. Somebody should show them the quote from the Book of Enoch.

You thought my references to the Footballer's Wives series was off topic didn't you. It depicted nothing else but females operating extreme applications of the scientific method.

It is an important principle of the scientific method that it is applicable to everything and not just those things you fancy choosing. Knowledge of the world is not the same as knowledge of one part of it.
