@Cycloptichorn,
Missed the opportunity. This was one of the most historic moments in our nation's history. He needed a better speechwriter...and more passion. Still. He has the nomination.

@Lash,
He didn't miss anything. It was a great speech, full of quotable lines, full of feeling, and full of specifics. There's nothing to criticize here.

Also, the stadium was totally the right call. Looks fantastic. Comes across great on TV.

Big fireworks. They work better then balloons.

My assessment... The planners of the event really missed the mark. They should have given a lot more thought to grabbing channel changers and looky-loos on the hour as people are looking around TV and possibly thinking of watching. A lot of wasted time. The staging was nice. Kennedy, Michelle, Bill and Biden were powerful... Obama, not so much.

The Hillary situation caused anxiety, but I think it was put to bed.

Missed opportunities, I think.

@okie,
Yes, America lives, flags fly, tomorrow, Barrack, Mr. McCain will not go away. You talked about adversity, now watch your opponent, a man that experienced true adversity sitting in a prison for years, yes for years, I think he knows something about this country too, and I look forward to the debates, let the fight go on. We are not going quietly, Barrack, we built this country too, we served, we died, we also have something to say about it. Same to you guys on this forum, Mr. Bush is an honorable man, and you cannot take that away, American blood runs in that mans veins as well. Good night. Mr. Bush has been trashed enough, now run against the real opponent, a true American hero, John McCain.

@Lash,
Fair enough. My assessment is that you are looking for complaints, when Obama just gave a fantastic speech - and one that had plenty of specifics in it, despite claims he never does that.

Time for the Republican convention thread.

You've blinded yourself, Okie. Bush is not an honorable man; he is a liar and someone who cares very little for even you, Okie. Only power.

Just my opinion of course.

@Cycloptichorn,
He did give a good speech. I will give you that. Just words , and we will be checking this all out.

Nancy, you ruined the entire evening.

And spare us the terrible music.

Peace, cyclops, and to all the Obama lovers.

@Cycloptichorn,
Cyclo--

How do you get through life thinking that if people don't agree with you--they are just looking for complaints? You'll see that I'll be JUST as critical of the GOP convention. It's possible that it will be worse.

@Lash,
LOL Obama hit one out of Mile High Stadium. Must be the altitude.

While Obama spoke, the streets of downtown San Francisco were still. That NEVER happens. Even the crackheads shut up.

Bill Orally has been placed on suicide watch.

Andrea Mitchell says it sounded intimate and personal from the floor of the convention.

So I'm watching the speech and I'm really loving what Barack is saying, and then he says that whole quote from scripture at the end, finishing on a very serious note with a message of common purpose and duty and meaning, and I'm like yes, yes...and then he says "God Bless the United States of America,"and I'm like, yes he nailed it! and the crowd goes wild and he looks away purposefully...and then the stupid trite hillbilly music comes on over the PA loud enough to drown out the ovation completely and wash the moment all away in about two seconds flat. Why?! What idiot decided to put that music on so soon after he stopped talking? What the hell!? It totally killed the whole moment for me! Come on! I bet Obama made that decision. If he did, it shows that he's got terrible judgment. That's it, I'm voting for McCain!

Gore was a monster... for Al Gore. If he was that polished years ago, he'd have been President.

Obama was quite good. Not his best work... but compared to virtually anyone else; fantastic. No one will do better at the RNC.

I think and hope I just watched our next President speak. If he can find that much poise in the debates; he will be.

I like Obama, but I have to say his speech was the same ol', same ol' ... promises that he can't keep. I expect the same at the Republican convention. I was hoping for something more substantial from Obama. This speech was not nearly as good as several others I've seen him give. I doubt that it will change many minds though.

@soozoo,
Yeah. I've really just been critiquing the show....I don't have the stomach to assess the politics. I'm so sick of the exact same promises delivered by all politicians.... "I will make sure we...." Bullshit. Yeah. No more dependency on foreign oil....more pay for teachers, and accountability... Yeah right. We call that NCLB... The same promises by a different guy. But, that's not just Obama...it's all of them...

This One Time at Band Camp...

Anyway, the upcoming debates will be the real test and I bet both candidates will end up in each others faces.

My prediction:
Obama is going to try and push McCain's anger button for all to see and McCain will punish him for it.

@H2O MAN,
Punish how?

By illustrating exactly how angry and volatile he can be? McCain will only punish himself.
