Do celebrities actually think they help candidates?

I noticed that Madonna is not a supporter of McCain- big whoppie for Obama. Do you really think a celebrity helps a candidate? If anything certain celebrity endorsements would seem to hurt a candidate. Especially when such a celebrity is a bit far fetched like comparing McCain to Hitler. I would imagine that most people whether they care for McCain or not would not consider him similar to Hitler.

How do you think political candidates feel about celebrity endorsements? I suppose people who are a bit more respected like an Oprah would carry some clout, but someone like Madonna is a joke.

@Linkat,
I fully agree with your above views.
The so called commericial dancing dolls can expose their experiences, instead of tarnishing those candidates who struggle to usharp the power.
In India( a country with all kind of problems and still struggle to be a democratic country) the same is the case- unfortunately.
But USA is worse than India in this context.

@Linkat,
Lots of people looooooove Madonna. Maybe not you or me but lots of people do. And there are people who have voted for a candidate simply because he/she's cute so, voting for a candidate that your hero endorses? Not so farfetched.

@Linkat,
Another cheap stunt by this has been skank who would not have the balls to run that bit in the States.

Celebrities actually think they DO help. Unfortunately, this voter ignores them as you all should relative to their political opinion.

@eoe,
Yes, I agree there are many boneheads that vote for a candidate for some inane reason. But I guess more of my question is - does this hurt a candidate more - I guess I am assuming there are more reasonably intelligent people voting than complete idiots. I got the impression that most of these sorts of boneheads do not vote as often. I mean they would have to know how to register to vote - wouldn't they?

@Woiyo9,
I just think it is silly. Does this celebrity think this would convince some one?

Honestly it doesn't affect me one way or another about a candidate - whoever endorses them - I like to vote for who I feel would do the best job. But do you think this hurts or helps a candidate over all.

@Linkat,
McCain appeared with a Puerto Rican pop star yesterday in front of a Hispanic audience and I think Obama has done similar, so I think the candidates believe that celebrity endorsements work. As for the Madonna stunt, I think that was her own idea. But those attending her concert were probably a good target audience for that stuff. I suppose she would know them best.

@Linkat,
I guess it depends on the celebrity. I don't think Madonna hurts him as much as, say, a big porn star or a sleazy ex-con.

@eoe,
I respect her talents but not in a filed like politics where she had never been a shining star.
Each should do their jobs and not abuse, use, misuse in other fiels.
Michael Moor comes to my mind.
