I marched in DC and NYC and I didn't see anyone maced or beaten.
I'm sure there were those who were maced or beaten, but I am also sure they were the participants who called the police "Pigs," gave them the finger, and threw rocks and bottles at them.
Anyone have evidence of the police wading into purely peaceful protesters and kicking ass?
I never saw it and my anecdotal evidence should at least be equal in validty to BiPo's.
Should our security forces be trained to resist provocation by radical assholes? Yes, but let's face it we don't pay these guys enough for them to be Buddhist Warrior Monks. It's amazing they don't kick the **** out of more people.

Some asshole throwing bottles in the streets outside a party convention or international meeting is no more than a vandal, and usually a dilletante to boot.
