Are you familiar with the term 'aphorism'?
Here's some definitions:
brief statement which expresses an observation on life, usually intended as a wise observation.
A short, pithy statement of truth or opinion; a saying.
A brief statement containing an important truth or fundamental principle.
A concise statement of a principle or something held by the speaker to be true or deeply felt.
A terse, pointed statement expressing some wise or clever observation about life.
I confess an obsession with reading them and creating them. One of my all time favourite books is 'The Oxford Book Of Aphorisms'.
Here are some examples taken from the Amazon readers reviews, none are the ones I most treasure, but I will be sharing them with you through this thread. I've even written my own poor attempts - try and contain your excitement. Please share your faves.
