Strong words, Bear, but I can't really disagree with what you say. A bit too slick she is, but no one ever accused Madonna of not having gall!

better add the disclaimer that these statements are strictly my opinion and not necessarily true....I wouldn't want Madonna to get pissed off and send some thug around to throw some of her body fluids on me.....

She's also launching her children's book this week and claims she doesn't see why she wouldn't be a good role model for kids. When asked at the press conference about the Britney kiss, she said "That's the kind of kiss you would give your sister." Well, I don't have a sister, but I would guess that most of us would draw the line at slipping her the tongue. Anyone else concur?

Cav, I missed seeing the kiss, so I'll have to take your word as to the, ahem, extent of its thrust.

But I get the sense she wants to have it both ways, so to speak, as both a sexpot role model for teenage girls and a nice mom for little kids. Sounds absurd to me, but the woman has been getting away with this kind of nonsense for years. Why stop now?

I think she is losing her fame, and worried about not being in the spotlight, and she should really just be concerned with raising her kid right, but that is also just my opinion.

Funny thing is, many papers and online news sources are now apoligizing for printing the pictures due to pressure from gay-rights groups. I am sure Madonna is proud. Rolling Eyes Anyway, here is a link. I still don't think this is how you would kiss your sister, and the paper's apology is equally ridiculous:

http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/news/09022003_ent_mtvkiss.html

P.S., I also did not think this was front page news...I don't blame gay rights groups for being upset, but I also think Madonna does want it both ways, and when you are a parent, and shall we say, in the twilight of your pop career, family should come first. She's not controversial anymore. This picture should not have even been in the news at all, but Madonna can't resist getting herself in the media. Sad really....

People! People! Her name! Madonna/whore... she's been playing on that forever.

Meanwhile, I'm no fan, but I don't think it's totally hypocritical for her to want to keep this stuff from her daughter when she (the daughter) is still so young. If she does when the daughter is 18, well, yeah, that's dumb. But there's nothing inherently wrong with someone being a) sexual and b) a good mother. (I'd think squinney could attest to that, bpb...)

The sister thing is dumb. That's where I get into not being a fan, when she does controversial things and tries to back away from them. But that's separate from whether it's hypocritical of her to not want to show her highly sexualized side to her young daughter yet. (The linked article says "... until she's much older," not never.)

Characterization of liberal sexuality as whoredom directly conflicts with most mens' desire to see more sexual liberty.

The word "whore" is too strong, and I agree with Sozobe that it's not so weird for a parent to shield her kid from her own (the parent's) excessives. Then again, it sounds like Madonna is STILL playing the sexpot when it suits her, so it does seem a bit hyporcritical.

And I also agree with Cav re Madonna's willingness to do whatever it takes to stay in the spotlight. Of which this new book (which was featured on the NY Times home page earlier today) is a great example...

Yeah, "whore" is a bit strong..."media whore" is closer to the truth, and a la Joan Crawford, as potentially damaging to the kids as being a real whore. As for wanting to "shield the child", it still seems to me like "don't come in the washroom right now, I'm shooting up." Now, Madonna is not in that world, but....her desire for continuing celebrity is an equally attractive addiction.

I don't have a problem with whores...but women who admittedly are fvcking constantly and indiscriminately with folks of both sexes and publishing come shot pictures are whores folks, let's get real.

Madonna has done all that? I know her picture book was a bit over-the-top, but I thought that was soft-core stuff. But I never saw it (OK, I looked over some guy's shoulder once, but I couldn't see much).

What gives, Bear?

there were some pictures she tried to get in the book and the publisher wouldn't let her that floated around the internet that were sure enough facial shots and Madonna in the past has bragged at lenght of her sexual exploits.....which is fine... I was a whore myself for many years but call a spade a spade ya know?

Well, I was gonna do a rant - (and I still might, so don't relax) - but I remembered I was swearing off gender issues, and I have to run to work - then I saw what Craven said.

So - what Craven said.

It covered a lot of ground in few words.

But you're not digging her, you're calling her hypocritical. (Which is what I object to more than "whore" per se.) She doesn't want to expose her young daughter to explicit sex. Yet. Big whoop.

Bi-Polar,

Just a question: you said you used to be a 'whore'.

What happened? Family life? ;-)
