This one feels kinda close to home. He was hospitalized for pneumonia and a condition known as sarcoidosis, and died early this morning at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
I'm a big fan. I never believed he was as sick as all that.

A lot of people assume they'll have a life to live after retirement.
You live it while you can.

Sad. You kinda knew something was up when his PR people started spinning. It never fails.
RIP Bernie. We've got you on film forever.

What an awful thing to happen-- depressing thing to see in the headlines first thing in the morning, wasn't it? He seemed like a nice guy from what I'd heard of him, and jeez, young.

My husband and I were talking about this after my daughter called with the news. I read that he had sarcoidosis of the lung. According to my internist/nuclear medicine physician husband...they don't really have a cause for it truly. Exposure to toxins. Inhalation of something? Bacterial overlay with his pneumonia? I had a patient at NIH that I cared for with sarcoidosis...also died very young.
Very, very sad for so young and talented.
As the nurse that put my father on hospice said to him when he wanted to know if he could have a wee dram of single malt Scotch whisky with his pain meds: "You can have a drink when you like...live it up and enjoy everything while you can....this is not a dress rehearsal!"
