Is there a way to "turn off" your taste buds?

On me, my dad couldn't smell, and me either. I had it tested at some point, maybe around age 20, with some resultant burble about anosmia. Decades later, I followed through with a researcher at UCI on this after an article in the LA Times, and flunked test, as the test made you pick a choice, with don't know not an option. So, in self defense I clicked on the top option of most of the test. Auto flunko, which I explained at the time. I remember the tech who administered the test, a woman from China who used to live right near Tianamen..

but I could smell a few things, mostly not being able to identify them, and from my own pov I'm supposing I have some unobvious underlying smelling mech.

As a lot of us know, I'm an enthusiastic cook. That is not all based on emptyness, whether it is smell or taste.
