Teacher: Giving him a passing grade will save some embarrassment on my part.
Teacher: Giving him a passing grade will save some embarrassment on his part.
Which is the correct sentence or are both wrong? If so, how would I rephrase it?
Many thanks.
Ask yourself who will be embarresed?
Either sentence can be correct, depending upon the context. No one can give you a certain answer because you have not provided the context.
It's your sentence, you tell us.
Hi Setanta
If I could explain the meaning of the sentence, I wouldn't be asking.
Yes. The teacher taught him.
Maybe the teacher got paid by his parents.
Or accepted gifts from them.
Or made promises or predictions about him doing well.
Then, his failure might be an embarassment in these circumstances.
Thanks for all the replies.
