Why don't we just take the safety labels off everything?

This is Drewdad's signature line:

I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

It has always amused me...

When I went to the UK in the nineties, I was stunned at the number of labels on stuff.....like, when you vegetables, there were labels on the packs, telling you how to cook them. Now, I sometimes see similar labels here.

I don't think I have yet seen the labels with the ridiculous safety instructions the Americans here complain about, but, as Oz becomes more pathetically litigous too, I suspect I will.

So........if you need to be told what food is, or that food may be hot once it is heated, should we take a hands off approach and allow the herd to be thinned?

Should we just take the labels off everything and let nature take its course?

(Note to those who need labels...this is in HUMOUR...I am not trying to kill your little kiddies.)

Goddammit!!!

When it comes to petards, that was an own hoist.

I meant "when you, like, BUY vegetables", of course!

For example, potatoes would come in little packs saying they should be cooked before consuming.

Anyway, apart from nit-picking, what do you think?

It's your sig-line after all!

Hmmmmm...but is the good of amusement for the smart greater than the good of weeding out the dumb?

I think it's unfortunate that hitting it big in a lawsuit is one of the more time-honored courses to retirement in the US.

Anyone who has an Internet connection should and still gets sick from improperly cooked vegetables should be barred from reproduction.

There's got to be a phase-out to give the bordeline stupid a chance at survival. How about for the first three years we replace all existing warning labels with a label that says

WARNING: SAFETY LABEL HAS BEEN REMOVED.

Absolutely, we should. Read a study last week that says that Americans make the roads less safe by putting up lots of signs, it is part of the informed consent fetish we have, tell people what is coming up and if they get into trouble it is their own fault. Trouble is that it takes too much time to read all of the signs, so people read none of the signs, even the important ones, plus all of the sign reading takes their eyes and mind off of the road. exactly the same dynamic works by treating everyone like idiots (ie promoting their victim identity) with endless warning labels....... Americans are stupid.

PS, this is an important topic, can we move it out of humor please????

If you ever have a few idles hours (and like the actor Alan Arkin), find a copy of The Russians Are Coming! The Russians Are Coming!.
