Road trip

Eh..we may be driving/vacationing 15 days .. maybe more.. who knows.
Leaving about a week from now..

Little Bean and I are driving around New Mexico and Texas. We will take off in a few days after my 18th birthday Cool and we are heading to new mexico.

But im in no hurry this time. This.. is a Thelma and Baby Louise minus the cliff type road trip.

We will spend time in Lubbock, maybe Brady , possibly Santa fe, definately Albq......

First major stop Lubbock.
Anyone in Lubbock? maybe..?

I considered going as far as Dallas.. but that city scares me. No nice memories there and I hear traffic is murder. So forget that..

Im looking forward to a road trip with out a schedule.

Big shifty things are going on at home and this is the most welcome break I have had in years.

Ever take a road trip with no plan?
Im not even going to reserve a hotel room anywhere.. Im feeling..

daring Cool

Little Bean has no idea. Well.. she does.. she talks about 'poopity head' a lot anytime we get in a car for a long drive as it is. When I told her the other day that her and I were leaving for a while, just us, for a REAL long drive.. her words -> "Yay. Poopity heads will be there too?"

Im glad the concept of long drives are ok with her, and I cant wait to just be able to ... stop some where..because we want to. And be able to just.. GO some where because we feel like it.

This.. should be a blast.

You are a brave woman Shewolf...don't know that I could do that...not for 15 days anyway...my daring goes for about a weekend...with kids. I used to be a daring person before children. I have become quite the granny in my "Momma" years.

Good luck to you and Bean and I hope you have a wonderful time and enjoy that freedom...I am so impressed!

Im really excited.

Of course, we wont spend all 15 days driving!
We will make a super slow two day treck to NM, then maybe some where north of there. . who knows. Maybe just hang out in the mountains, or Jemez springs.. or something..
Then take a super slow 2 day trip around southern new mexico, possibly going to south texas to the beach.. then heading home.

Little bean does really well with these things.
Im lucky I guess, that she is so ... low key.... and easily amused.

unlike her mother. Confused

I've taken many vacation road trips with no plan, usually 5 day ones with my husband, in California. (One major long one in another country, but never mind all that.) One thing about CA, routes vary. Some are teeth drilling boring on purpose, fast straight rides with a selection of fast food stops every so often for hundreds and hundreds of miles, and others with a lot of interesting places to stop.

I know Texas is a big old place and you've miles to go before you sleep each day. Now that we have the internet, I'd be tempted to look up all you can about possible interesting spots. Of course, that cuts out the element of surprise... but could give you some alternatives as you drive along.

Over the years, I drove alone from southern to very northern california and back a zillion times - and tried to get off the road at different places, thus discovering a lot of places I'd not known about..

In the meantime, I'm no help on Texas, am a Texas no-nothing. Thinking... bring water, make sure your air conditioning works.

Whoo hoo, road trip! Love them! You guys will have a blast. She's the perfect road companion for you, shewolfnm, pointing out all the interesting and unusual which you missed due to having your EYES STRAIGHT ON THE ROAD AHEAD.

You have fun!

I always have road trips with my sister, Karen, and we love them, as you will. Great tradition to start, too.

Take pics (as if you won't), LOTS of pics Smile

between here and Brady are several small, hidden in the bushes, old cemeteries I want to stop at.

Around luboock, its pretty much stinky oil and cotton fields. But tiny towns have the best museums and old buildings.
no fast food.
Cooler will be full of cheaper, longer lasting stuff.

2 spare tires.

1 cell phone

1 blanket

clothes

and no plans.

I have driven from austin to albq thousands of times. I know that route like the back of my hand. No map needed.
same from Albq to los angeles.

I used to love long trips. Stopped taking them once JIllian was born.Figured I had no time and "it wasnt me anymore"

bull-crikey

I got into driving with cds on my lone trips through the forest (nothin' like a little loud Verdi, in my case, or jazz, and then blues around Salinas.. not that I have music on all the time but that I like to be able to tune in.

I just remembered the jewish one on Yale..

I should stop there . I have a friend who is buried there. She was 21, on the slippery slope of schizophrenia and was killed about... 14 years ago.. maybe longer.. probably not..

it may be interesting to have a photo of her headstone. Dont know why.. but .. (makes mental note)
