Natural consequences!!!!
Pity it wasn't in his shoes.
My mom hit (though she'd call it spanking) in anger with her hand or a hairbrush. Like eoe, fixing my hair seemed to piss her off.
I've tried to talk to Mom about it, but she's in denial. It never happened. My siblings don't remember it as clearly as I do, but then, I think I got hit more.
My dad never hit me or my brothers that I recall, but he did swat my sister once for running across the street without looking. She (and I) learned that lesson well that day - we were probably 4 and 5.

He's washing it now.
She doesnt have a responsible father.
Even a non-responsible father would probably beat the crap outta him for that.
I only remember being spanked once by my mom with her hand (It really didn't hurt that much) From that day on however she would get the 'belt' and 'snap' it. Just the sound of it would bring me back in line.
Mostly though I was afraid to act up. I had seen my mom get beaten by my stepdad many times (for any number of reasons) I think he knew if he touched me in anyway I would not hesitate to call the police on him but the fear pretty much kept me a 'good' kid.
My mom never hit me but one time, when I just a little tyke, I bit into her thigh and she reacted by smacking me. It sent me nearly flying across the room. Her friends were shocked, lol.
I got hit, not spanked. It was always and only when she angry and drunk.
Sober she was an excellent, calm parent who would never lay a hand on me.
Spoons, kitchen utensils of any kind that she had in her hand at the time. Belts.
But what I hated the most was the 'cord'. It was an electrical cord and it had some serious reach.
Another favorite was her mouth. She'd bite.
This wasn't odd at the time, it's how she grew up and I knew a lot of family got the same deal from their parents.
I had cousins lighting rooms on fire, taking knives to their parents car tires, throwing knives at each other.
Didn't last too long as I got old enough to catch on and never be alone with someone I knew to be loopy. And if it came to it, I'd fight back.
Later on knives came into the equation but luckily nothing too serious came of that. Mostly for intimidation.
I have never hit, spanked, a child and will not. I don't believe in it.
Aside from her, I remember others using knives and belts a lot to try and "discipline" me.
To this day I am a bit paranoid about others handling knives. lol. Careful, careful...
Their hand.
I was only spanked 3-4 times and it really didn't hurt my bum so much as my pride.
The disappointment my parents expressed was a much greater tool than any spanking could ever be.
I was never really spanked when I was younger. I got tapped on the rear a couple of times by my mom or dad just to get my attention but it wasn't really hard enough to make me cry. It was just so I would look back and they could get my attention. Me and my husband did that a couple of times to our daughter when she was younger to get her attention. And my son when he was younger. It really never made them cry. My husband I am with now is my son's step father and he even gave him a tap on the rear once in a while. I actually remember when Ashton(my son) was about 6 or 7 years old and I tried to get his attention by tapping him on the rear and he started to cry. After he calmed down I asked him if it hurt and he said no you just scared me.
We most likely won't "spank" our youngest baby when he gets older. Right now he is only 5 months old so that is a while away
And my son doesn't even remember getting "spanked". He usually forgot about it not even a couple days after.
@ossobuco,
Well, me too, but the only times I would giver her stuff a miss was in the Parenting Forum.
@mismi,
how is it they never hit you but you were spanked.. which is it
they hit you with a switch when they spanked you
