So last night, while waiting for my flight at LAX I got a call from Conrad, the president of the company I cooked for recently. Could I meet today to discuss the mat leave thing? Sure. So I go in today meet with him and the CFO and yep, I'm working there as of Monday - doing some IR (investor relations), some PowerPoint, some web design and updates, and who knows what else. During the discussion, it turns out that the CFO knows me from two previous companies and feels easier. Then the Chief Geo comes in and offers me a cooking job in the Eastern Arctic - 6 - 8 weeks, starting July or so - yay. All for the same company, of course. Pelly Bay is where it is. Whoo hoo! Looks like we'll have another thread about cooking, but this time, believe me, it won't be about snow, it'll be about bugs, dammit!

But I'm so excited Smile

The CFO isn't impressed that I'll be away but Conrad said 'No, I told her she could leave for a cooking job if she wanted" (that was my one conditions) so basically, I set my salary, hours, and conditions - could it get any better than this? Smile I don't know, but I don't think so!

Anyway, I'm back to work and I'm glad to be occupied again. And happy to go back to the Arctic.

I'm so lucky.

cooking tips from Dys
(1) the preferred method of cooking whale blubber is deep frying in poly-unsaturated ghee, also known as holy corn-oil (oil from the corns of holy men).

If you want to know where it is, Pelly Bay is in green, just above the border in about the middle of the pic...

Good God, Mame. Don't they need people to cook somewhere that isn't frozen solid?

I mean, people in the tropics need to eat, too!

'Course, I don't imagine they have to look too hard to find people who'd be willing to go to Bora Bora for a few months. That'd be so much easier than finding some crazy woman who'd agree to spend part of her summer between Igloolik and Repulse Bay. (Those names alone oughta tell you somethin'.)

Somebody slap her.

I lived at Pond Inlet for a period of time. Nice place. It suited my needs perfectly at the time.

Better Pelly Bay than its neighbor Repulse Bay, I'm thinking.

Good luck, have fun!

And keep an eye on that Conrad. (He's the wine tour dude, right?)
