The New York Times just reported that Edward Kennedy is suffering from a malignant brain tumor.
Quote:
BOSTON (AP) -- Sen. Edward M. Kennedy has a malignant brain tumor.

Doctors for the Massachusetts Democrat say tests conducted after Kennedy suffered a seizure this weekend show a tumor in his left parietal lobe. Preliminary results from a biopsy of the brain identified the cause of the seizure as a malignant glioma, they said.

[...]

Malignant gliomas are a type of brain cancer diagnosed in about 9,000 Americans a year -- and the most common type among adults. It's a starting diagnosis: How well patients fare depends on what specific tumor type is determined by further testing.

Average survival can range from less than a year for very advanced and aggressive types -- such as glioblastomas -- or to about five years for different types that are slower growing.

I hope he gets well soon. Although I rarely agree with him, I'd [/i] hate to see him go. Indeed I can hardly imagine American politics without him.

I'd rather see him defeated by an up and coming Republican, not cancer.

An 'up and coming' Republican, eh Woiyo? How apropos. There sure a lot of those perverts around.

Here's yet another;

MD - Republicans Clean Up Mess Left by ex-Delegate McKee after Child Porn Arrest

02/20/2008

ANNAPOLIS - Former Republican Maryland Delegate Robert McKee, of Washington County in western Maryland, left little unfinished legislative business behind when he resigned recently after police seized computers from his home as part of a child pornography investigation.

In a legislative session that has seen 1,517 bills introduced in the House of Delegates, McKee sponsored only one, which would require mortgage lenders to allow payments from customers online.

The 47 bills McKee co-sponsored included efforts to name Smith Island Cake the state dessert, to repeal the unpopular computer services tax and to step up penalties for child sexual abuse.

Wonderful. Rolling Eyes You could very well be the dumbest person ever to post on A2K.

It this EFFING necessary on this thread to post something so juvenile as you did?

Go ahead and respond to further demonstrate how completely stupid you really are. Evil or Very Mad

Meanwhile, it seems the odds aren't looking so good for Kennedy:

Prognosis Usually Bleak for Condition, a Glioma
By LAWRENCE K. ALTMAN and ANAHAD O'CONNOR

The statement that Senator Edward M. Kennedy's doctors issued on Tuesday made clear that his malignant tumor was a glioma, a cancer that arises in the brain and that often carries a bleak prognosis.

[...]

Mr. Kennedy's glioma is in the parietal area in the upper part of the left side of his brain, above the ear. This area of the brain involves motor control and ability to understand language, among other functions.

Malignant brain tumors rarely spread elsewhere in the body. But like the root of a plant, cancerous brain tumors can invade nearby areas in the brain.

[...]

Mr. Kennedy's family has been unusually affected by cancer. Two of his three children and his first wife are cancer survivors. His son, Edward Kennedy Jr., was treated for bone cancer in 1973 at the age of 12. His daughter, Kara Kennedy Allen, was treated for lung cancer in 2003. His first wife, Joan Kennedy, was treated for breast cancer in 2005.

Full article

There's a lot of standard American motivational blurb in the article about the good spirits Kennedy is in. There's even more of this in another article today, where the Times is quoting Kennedy's fellow politicians saying what a fighter he is, and how he's ready for this fight. But in reality, if you look at the facts of his case, it's not looking good for Kennedy at all.

You live in Boston, Miller. You know how thoroughly Mitt burned his bridges here--dynamited them probably is a better description. If he's ever elected to anything again, it's not gonna be in MA.

Too bad, the average American taxpayer can't receive the medical care old Kennedy has received.

Wouldn't we all like a private room with kitchen at the Mass General Hospital, when we're patients?

Edward Kennedy is back with a speech to the Democratic convention. As his speeches go, this one was about average. But I'm glad to see him back, and I'm grateful for the closure it brings to this thread. For those who haven't heard the speech yet, the New York Times has a combined video/text page of it here:

@Thomas,
heard it on the 3AM news. Another era in US politics has closed . The Kennedy's were , lately , of dwindling relevance.
