1. I heard the siren of an ambulance.
2. I heard the wail of the siren of an ambulance.
3. I heard the wailing of the siren of an ambulance.

Which is the correct sentence? Is there a better way to reword the sentence?

or you can just say...I heard the ambulance's siren.

There is no "correct" sentence. All three are fine. I prefer no. 1 because it is shorter.
