Mothers think street view 'helps' pedophiles

yeah.. yeah.. yeah..
I understand what it feels like to want to be protective of your kids.
I really do.

But.. OH MY GOD.
Can someone put down this uber-paranoid crack pipe most americans are smoking?
Just because you can SEE kids at a house DOES NOT MEAN your kids are a prime target for the phantom pedophile.

Kids were snatched BEFORE the internet, and they will be snatched AFTER the internet. A photo online does not make one bit of difference.

If pedophile is looking to abduct a kid, he is going to do it no matter what is on a computer screen.

Why do we live in such paranoia?

Popular media generated hype!

From what I can tell, fast food is far more dangerous (on average year over year) than the net negative effects of all pedophiles given the same on average year over year context.

And that's assuming any correlations can be drawn between Goggle Street and pedophile frequency.

I isolate myself from the popular local media as much as possible exactly so I do not have as much chance to be influenced by such hype.

The true underlying concerns of man's continued successful survival on Earth takes a huge backseat to such trivia.

Oh my God....

I **** you not, I googled my exact street address, and there was a picture of me in front of my house talking to the mother and father of my next door neighbor. I know it had to be around Thanksgiving of last year, because that's when they were visiting.

I can actually remember standing there talking to them.

I feel so.....violated. Razz

My thoughts exactly.

I think this is just over paranoid, needing control type of a reaction.

A photo of a child on the internet is not going to lead a pedophile directly to you and only you.
It isnt as if someone can not drive by and see TOYS in the yard and know that you have a kid..

The only time I could see this as an issue would be in the cases of witness protection.
Then, those addresses should NOT feature a human in the picture no matter what..

but other then that.. I dont see this google street thing an issue at all.

I think that it is just a tempest in a teapot. A pedophile can walk into any mall, or hang around a schoolyard, and see all the kids that he wants. I think that newspapers need fillers, when there is no exciting news around.

(My house is the one with the white car in front of it. I'm amazed at how the little palm tree in front has grown. Hey, I'd better be careful, or someone will come out in the middle of the night and steal my palm tree! )

Here you can see the green giant ( what we call this ugly building..)

But.. the dang camera man OBVIOUSLY came right after the city trash man did. So we are immortalized with empty cans thrown everywhere.. Confused

I don't think it's the overhead view they are worried about but the real, ground level street view. When you go to the map, click on the tab "street view" then click somewhere along the blue lines and you will get a ground level view of what is happening on that street.

Personally, I find it a little disconcerting.

I can look directly into Mo's classroom window using the street cam. So can anyone else. I don't like it.

I'm glad my house is not on a blue lined street and that a big hedge blocks the view of my house from the nearest camera.
