Am I the only one who realizes that The End is Nigh?
No, not really - I find such regularly in my morning emails
I am sure all of us (not just Foxfyre) regularly receive mass e-mails from relatives, coworkers, and friends. Often they tell some type of clever story with an IMPORTANT LESSON. I delete these e-mails before I even finish reading them. There is nothing to be learned from sophistry.
Agreed, but some of us can tell the difference between sophistry and pertinent ideas or concepts. For instance an idea, an illustration of a concept, a metaphor are usually not sophistry. Trying to make such into something that was never intended usually is, however.
While I find most 'chain email stuff' to be uninteresting or simply fluff if not flat out dishonest propaganda--most like that I receive is from the 'conservative' side--there is some that does provide a message worth considering. It is unfortunate when minds become so closed they are unable to distinguish between propaganda and a reasonable idea, and/or are unwilling to even read a different point of view, and/or are unable to discuss a point of view outside their own prejudices.
