@joefromchicago,
The problem I see with it, is it assumes the grade is the only incentive for everyone in the class. Something I find hard to believe. If a grade is the only reason to learn then no one would have an incentive to learn anything outside of a classroom. (That could well explain some of the people posting on this board.)

Then in the real world they assume money is the only motivation for people. This is a very non realistic view of people since it would require that everyone goes into the profession or job they do solely for the monetary reward. I would bet most people see other rewards from their job than just the paycheck.

Of course, Fox has me on ignore so will never see this.

We're only second to Mexico on taxing the lowest to GDP, and the MACs and conservatives are afraid of "spreading the wealth."

They have learned their lessons well; fear works. Well, at least 22% of our citizens believe that!

@joefromchicago,
Many go into professions that do not pay well, but feel they are contributing to society. Often times it's not for the paycheck; many in our country volunteer their services for free at charities, hospitals, and many other places.

My wife now volunteers at the hospital where she worked as a RN.

I shall remain focused on rescuing our Constitutional Republic.

OBAMA IS ACTING IN VIOLATION OF USA LAW TO ACHIEVE OBJECTIVES WHICH VIOLATE USA LAW.
The solution for how to save our Constitutional Republic is to first impeach President Obama, or initiate his removal from the presidency some other lawful way. He is violating the Constitution of the USA that he swore to support. He is leading the transfer of private property from those persons and from those organizations who have lawfully earned it to those persons and organizations who have not lawfully earned it.

What is his plan that the professor missed?

What the professor missed and you've missed is that people don't stop going for the gold just because they are taxed at a higher rate. How do we know this? From those pesky little things called facts. Look around the world. Entrepeneurial spirit is hardly confined to the USA.

What that professor's experiment might have illustrated is that students don't necessarily study to learn, they study to appease the tester.

Nowhere is this more clear than in how English grammar [I suspect other languages too] has been taught and "learned". Whole generations of grammatical incompetents [incompetent in their ability to accurately describe how English works] have been turned out. In this case, perhaps those on the lower end of the grading scale were the ones who actually did understand.

I am sure all of us (not just Foxfyre) regularly receive mass e-mails from relatives, coworkers, and friends. Often they tell some type of clever story with an IMPORTANT LESSON. I delete these e-mails before I even finish reading them. There is nothing to be learned from sophistry.

@cicerone imposter,

Why then does this nation desperately need Obamacare when so many in our country
volunteer their services for free at charities, hospitals, and many other places???

Obama makes it sound like charity is dead and that we can't survive another day
and that we are all going to die without adopting all of his idiotic plans immediately.

But if Obama hasn't taken any of your property then you must think income is not property. That would invalidate most of your "constitutional" argument ican.

I think gross income is property and my gross income is my property.

The tax rates on my gross income were established not by Obama. The tax rates on my gross income were established by Bush in 2003. Bush is no longer president. Obama is now president and has NOT YET raised those tax rates on my gross income for the purpose of transferring MORE of my lawfully earned property to people or organizations that have not and are not lawfully earning that property.

This response by you is persuasive evidence that you are suffering a "type of Obsessive- Compulsive Disorder." In your case, this disorder you are suffering is your compulsion to libel those with whom you disagree. This disorder is universal among Statists who accuse all those with whom they disagree of suffering the same disorders they do.

Agreed, but some of us can tell the difference between sophistry and pertinent ideas or concepts. For instance an idea, an illustration of a concept, a metaphor are usually not sophistry. Trying to make such into something that was never intended usually is, however.

While I find most 'chain email stuff' to be uninteresting or simply fluff if not flat out dishonest propaganda--most like that I receive is from the 'conservative' side--there is some that does provide a message worth considering. It is unfortunate when minds become so closed they are unable to distinguish between propaganda and a reasonable idea, and/or are unwilling to even read a different point of view, and/or are unable to discuss a point of view outside their own prejudices.

@Foxfyre,
But, people were willing to discuss it. They engaged you in discussion of it. The email did not provide an actual 'example' at all; this was the substance of the discussion. That is to say, it is proposed by many here that an actual experiment of this type would not replicate the results, and that this doesn't reflect the way that redistribution is actually done; given that, what meaningful lesson can people be expected to learn from it?

Given this, there's a good chance, without even looking at its merits, that that was fluff. Then when its merits were looked at and compared to reality, it quickly took on the appearance of cotton candy.
