@Foxfyre,
I mean, actually a conservative should be happy when the leader of the "democratic socialist Labour Party" is kept a bit on the low.

@McGentrix,
Wow.. A conservative RAG in London wrote an "editorial" on the snub. WOW.. That gives me reason to believe it must be true.

By the way, in April of 2008 Brown visited Bush and was NOT given a state dinner. Not only that, there is no mention of Bush even giving Brown any gifts. OMG... Bush insulted Brown. Where were the papers then?

@Walter Hinteler,
No, you specifically said that George Bush was far worse to you (Germany) than the poorly executed welcome to Gordon Brown. So what did President Bush do to your elected leaders that was so bad?

Im sure you don't see an insult in there, though I'm equally sure that you would clearly see an insult in there if the President had been George Bush instead of Barack Obama.
Nope.. I didn't think it was in insult when Bush did it. I would love to see where you think Bush insulted Brown for the same treatment you now say is insulting.

@Foxfyre,
So.. kindly point out the state dinner and the presents Bush gave Brown in 2008 when he visited since you think he didn't treat Brown the way Obama did.

@parados,
It seems Bush didn't give a state dinner for Brown for his first visit to the US in 2007 either.

OMG.. Bush insulted Brown TWICE.

Here's what you said Walter:

You mean the press conference? Or the 25 DVD's as present? Or ...?
Well, we are used to much worse by the Bush administration.

So what was the 'much worse' you were used to by the Bush administration?

@parados,
Well, the British press reported broadly how "snubbed" (NB: not 'insulted') Brown because US Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson had refused to meet the PM.

I don't know what present were given, but it is well known that President Bush researched the likes/dislikes/interests/special facts about his visiting diplomatic guests, as ALL former Presidents have generally done, and tailored the 'official' gifts accordingly. President Obama obviously did not do that. I read one account that the self-promoting CDs (available in the gift shop) given to Gordon Brown won't even work on Mr. Brown's media system. Tacky tacky.

As for that state dinner though, here ya go referring to a state dinner June 15, 2008:

Quote:
Many people can argue about whether Mr Bush did the right thing, but I have a suspicion that history will be a lot kinder in judging Mr Bush's legacy than the anti-war protesters who tried to disrupt his dinner with Gordon Brown on Sunday night.

Does this mean that you can't cite any instances where President Bush insulted your German leaders? Are you going to retract the statement?

In 2007, President Bush took Gordon Brown to Camp David which is the alternate means of meeting with visiting dignitaries and often used by many of our past Presidents. He did schedule a formal joint press conference, something that Barack Obama did not do--Obama only had a few reporters in when the Brits officially protested the lack of of a press conference.

Just to remind you: that was in LONDON, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, when President Bus was invited by HM The Queen .... and later a guest in Downing Street.

(My response above is referring to PM Browen's visit in WASHINGTON.)

That's funny Fox..

So now when Bush visits Britain it counts as a state dinner for Brown in the US?

Brown visited the US in April. Bush visited Britian in June

Here are pictures:

I didn't say anything about "German leaders". It was you who introduced the term here,

And, no, I'm not retracting my response.
