@plainoldme,
It is a long, long process and I don't think many people would want there name associated with this idea. I doubt it would even get past the first step. I think a rough estimate is it is a 10 year minimum process.

Quote:
Amending the Constitution is a two-part process: amendments must be proposed then ratified. Amendments can be proposed one of two ways. To date, all amendments, whether ratified or not, have been proposed by a two-thirds vote in each house of Congress. Over 10,000 constitutional amendments have been introduced in Congress since 1789; during the last several decades, between 100 and 200 have been offered in a typical congressional year. Most of these ideas never leave Congressional committee, and far fewer get proposed by the Congress for ratification.

Alternatively, if two-thirds of the state legislatures demand one, Congress must call for a constitutional convention, which would have the power to propose amendments. As no such convention has been called, it is unclear how one would work in practice.

Regardless of how the amendment is proposed, it must also be ratified by three-fourths of states. Congress determines whether the state legislatures or special state conventions ratify the amendment. The 21st Amendment is the only one that employed state conventions for ratification.

I'm not worried!

Personally, I don't fear our government, but I disagree with many of the decisions made by this president and congress.

That all levels of government don't have the cahones to control spending at a time when we have such high unemployment rates, drop in tax revenues, and increase in debts, it's not good for anybody. However, I support the idea of extended unemployment benefits for the unemployed; if we can spend billions on wars in foreign countries, we have the responsibility to feed our own citizens who have paid their taxes when they worked.

Again, I can't disagree with your statement but still don't understand what you claim to fear more than "the government."

The majority of Americans want single payer. Obamacare, modeled on Romneycare, was a compromise.

And yet Obamacare fueled the Republican victories in 2010.

I suppose all of these would be socialists got pissed at the Democrats for coming up short and voted Republican.

@georgeob1,
It is hardly nonsense to suggest that the Nazis were more aligned with the Progressive movement of the time than any corresponding conservative model.

It would be nonsense to equate German Nazis with American Progressives, but I don't think okie has done so.

Perhaps you should provide some detail about "the Progressive movement of the time" - It isn't clear what, in fact, you are referring to.

However, a few questions to ponder as you do --
=>Was it avowedly anti Semitic?
=>Did it advocate the widespread dominance and political control by an imaginary teutonic race?
=> Did it advocate the prohibition of all independent labor unions?
=>Did it organize and assist in the widespread use of convict and slave labor?

The Nazis did all of these things.

POM may be the most beautiful of women, but that's not how I picture her.

What I imagine her ass to look like is not appropriate for public discussion, but I assure you I want nothing to do with it.

You on the other hand, appear to be about as perfect an ass as her and so I would imagine you might find wonderous bliss within each other's arms.

Actually I thought it was fairly stupid ... more or less like your previous post.

None of that crap is really necessary and it pollutes the forum for everyone else.

Apparently you decided to just fly by my last statement.

The Progressive movement of today and then believed in the beneficence of the State as defined by the elite minds that formed it.

So did the Nazis.

@Finn dAbuzz,
Wow! This is the second time this week that I have been accused of having sex with a male contributor to this forum. As far as I know, Bill and I do not live in the same state.

I am beginning to think that the male righties are jealous of the male lefties and middle of the road types.
