Hello cafe denizens,
I could use some cheering up...

Wassau, a glass of champagne, if you please, and a comfy chair with a nice view of the tool-belt guys and of the koi pond.

Ahhhhh, thanks!

LOLA!!!

YOU'RE BACK!

I've been missing you, too, and wondering how your move is going. Are you settled into NYC now? Please tell us about it...

It just hasn't been the same around here without you. Poor Wassau didn't know what to do with himself after you left. We made him close up the cafe' for a few weeks and take a vacation. He works too hard, you know.

Poor Wassau does indeed work too hard. However, shed no tears for Wassau........he loves the work and the people in his cafe.

I have moved into my New York apartment. It's lovely. I'm on the 19th floor in a two bedroom apartment on the Upper East Side. It's four blocks from my office and the walk every morning will be fun (up hill to work, down hill home.....how did I get so lucky?) When I go to sleep or wake in the night, I can see the lights of Manhattan all around. And in the morning, I can sit on my balcony in my lounger and drink coffee. I'm very happy.

I'm still very busy however and won't be able to be around too much before Fall, but I can check in now. Hopefully it will be more often than not.

How are all of you?
Kiss to all.

Lola was one of the first a2kers I met when I fled Abuzz (12/02). I was then, and still remain, pretty dumb when it comes to computers. The witty writing by visitors to Lola's cafe was too clever for me but this redneck from the mountains of Virginia
has had a lot of fun here. I've met some fine people. In my visits to the Original Writing thread,
I've managed to invent some other people.

Thanks, Lola, and best wishes for your new life in NYC. -johnboy-

Drinks on HIAMA and mr and mrs diddie jealous as hell...........sounds like sooooooo much fun. Oh look, it's Maxine and Malcolm mouse, just in from the campaign trail.................

It's warm and cozy here by the pool side. Even though we've had a lot of rain in NY lately. Guatum, do visit when you can.......and you don't have to behave yourself. I'll have no one struggling to be other than themselves. Please do, misbehave. Laugh.

Osso......how are you? I was in SF a few weeks ago again. And it happened that I had dinner at the hotel where you stayed. The food was fantastic! I didn't recognize we were in your hotel until I got up, mid dinner to go to the rest room. Ha! I was so surprised.

We need some music. How about a little Dylan or Cohen on the CD player.

Wassau, darlin........we need some drinks for my friends.

Happy to see you all. Let's dance.

I'd love to dance, but where are all the menfolk?

"So come my friends, be not afraid.
We are so lightly here.
It is in love that we are made;
In love we disappear..."

(A little Leonard for your return, Lola. <hugs>)

Hi, Lola and Eva and Gautam...

The Adagio... I still mean to write up on trip advisor how much I liked that place. I was in SF over the weekend of the - looking it up, even though it was just last week - the 23rd to the 25th, from whence I took off for Sacramento. I went to the photosanfrancisco show, loved every minute of it. Stayed, however, at a strange and not so wonderful bed and breakfast over on Lombard, close to the Fort Mason exposition hall on the pier where the show was held. Still, I had myself a fine little time bouncing around Chestnut Street and visiting friends in Larkspur.

The stereo speaker over my head is burbling Bob's dreamSong.

While riding on a train goin' west,
I fell asleep for to take my rest.
I dreamed a dream that made me sad,
Concerning myself and the first few friends I had.

I didn't hear what it was till halfway through verse two,
but I know the words well. Lived most of it.

With half damp eyes I stared to the room
Where my friends and I spent many an afternoon,
Where we together weathered many a storm,
Laughin' and singin' 'til the early hours of the morn.

He wrote this when he was like 20 years old or something.
The words of an eighty year old duff in a skinny kid's brain.

By the old wooden stove where our hats were hung,
Our words were told and our songs were sung;
Where we longed for nothin' and were satisfied
Talkin' and a jokin' about the world outside.

I used to... wait a minute, shut up and listen to this part.

With haunted hearts through the heat and cold,
We never thought we could get very old;
We thought we could sit forever in fun
Though our chances really were a million to one.

As easy as it was to tell black from white,
It wasn't all that easy to tell wrong from right;
Our choices were few and the thought never hit
That the road we traveled would ever shatter and split
.[/size]

Boy, that was us alright...

I stir my drink, two olives have pimentos,
one is empty, as empty
and dark as ...shh, will you shhh.

How many a year has passed and gone,
And many a gamble has been lost and won;
And many a road taken by many a first friend,
And each one of them I've never seen again.

Sing this part aloud will you, for them, for all the friends lost.

I wish, I wish, I wish in vain,
That we could sit simply in that room once again;
Ten thousand dollars at the drop of a hat,
I'd give it all gladly if our lives could be like that.

And so it goes.

While riding on a train goin' west,
I fell asleep for to take my rest.
I dreamed a dream that made me sad,
Concerning myself and the first few friends I had
.

Welcome back, Lola

Joe

I just made plans for a reunion next month with a bunch of old college friends. Some can't make it, for various sad, sad reasons. Your song brought a tear to my eye, Joe. What timing....

Wassau, fix me another one. I'm feeling sentimental.

We are riding on a railroad, singing some else's song
Forever standing by the cross road. Take a side and step along.
We are sailing away on a river to the sea. Maybe you an me can meet again.
We are riding on a railroad, singing someone else's song Sing along.
There's a man up here who claims to have his hands upon the reins.
There are chains upon his hands and he's riding upon a train.
