@Raggedyaggie,
Of course, Raggedy!

There have been many "imitation Hitchcock" films. Truffaut's "The Bride Wore Black" was the best in my opinion. Truffaut used one of Hitchcock's favorite writers, William Irish* ("Rear Window", "The Bride Wore Black", "Mississippi Mermaid").

Your last question made me think of this. "The Talented Mr. Ripley" was written by Patricia Highsmith who also wrote "Strangers On A Train".

*William Irish was the pen name of Cornell Woolrich.

@wandeljw,
I'd not have guessed your movie, Wandeljw, without that clue. That's one I never saw. I'll keep a lookout for it on cable TV.
I had forgotten that 'Ripley' and 'Strangers on a Train' were written by the same author (Highsmith) until I watched "The Talented Mr. Ripley" last week. I also discovered it had another title: aka "The Mysterious Yearning Secretive Sad Lonely Troubled Confused Loving Musical Gifted Intelligent Beautiful Tender Sensitive Haunted Passionate Talented Mr. Ripley" - USA (complete title)
aka "The Strange Mr. Ripley" - USA (working title)

Late thirties:

At the fund-raising ball, she removes the wedding ring she so cherishes and offers it to the auctioneer for the cause. Not to be outdone, her recently widowed companion quickly removes and offers her 'not' so cherished ring.

Late seventies.

A gunshot rings out as the horse drops. It's dead. The man with the gun says he didn't shoot the horse.

@Roberta,
I don't think I saw this one, Roberta. I'll try to post some guesses this evening or tomorrow, though.

I bet a nickel, possibly as much as a dime, that you DID see this one, Raggedy.

Not Blazing Saddles, eoe. But you're on the right track. It's a comedy.

It's a bet, Roberta. Laughing
I'm stumped but -- two more guesses for a clue:

The Frisco Kid

@Raggedyaggie,
Before the horse died, it was lead inside. Getting the body out could possibly involve a power saw. (Raggedy, I'm tellin' ya. You owe me a nickel.)

Sorry for the delay.

New question:

Early nineties

Her hand shakes as she endorses a check for four million dollars . She trembles as she grudgingly hands it to a nun on the street who is soliciting money for the benefit of the homeless.

@Raggedyaggie,
Your wild guess is correct, Raggedy--it is The Verdict.

That's one of my favorite Paul Newman films.

Your turn.
