30. Christmas in Conneticut
31. When Harry Met Sally
32. Babe

Are we talking actual Christmas films or films that include Christmas scenes, like the last two I've listed here?

I would say films that utilise Christmas for more than just background, that convey some Christmas spirit even if it is only a small part of the film. The Wool Cap for, instance, only has Christmas scenes near the end, but they contribute a lot to the effect of the film.

The other day I watched the trailer for Cloverfield on the box and saw the head of Lady Liberty rolling through the streets of New York. That poor statue has suffered a lot over the years. I thought I could use this old thread to collect a list of films that feature the statue of liberty as more than just skyline (Please, do mention how the statue is featured). Here goes:

1. Cloverfield (The statue is decapitated by a monster)
2. The Day after Tomorrow (The statue is hit by a tidal wave and subsequently frozen in ice)
3. The Planet of the Apes (Remains of the statue on a beach)
4. Flodder in America (Anti-social Dutch family accidentally blows up the head of the statue)
5. Splash (Mermaid Madison comes ashore at the foot of Lady Liberty)
6. Remo: Unarmed and Dangerous (Remo walks on liquid cement during a fight at the foot of the statue).
7. X-men (A fight between the X-men and other mutants takes place on the statue).
8. The Godfather (Vito Corleone first sees the statue from behind bars in the holding centre of Ellis Island)

Surely, there are more, IMDB has a whole list, but of those I can't remember how the statue fared in it, or I haven't seen them. Surprise me.

9. Ghostbusters II - The statue comes to life and wades into Manhattan.
10. Titanic - Rose (Kate Winslet) sees the statue as she's arriving back in the US.

Hi Raggedy, Mac & Paaskynen,

12. Funny Girl (I am pretty sure, someone can correct me if I am wrong.)

I believe Barbra Streisand was singing "Don't Rain on my Parade" (my favorite song in that movie).

Hi guys, I appreciate the prompt reactions! Very Happy

13. Les Triplettes de Belleville (Although a cartoon, the statue holding an icream cone and a hambuger bun is surely a representation of lady liberty).

I am sure if I rack my brains I can come up with some more. The statue is so iconic that it must have been used in many films I have seen. What about disaster films like Meteor (that one was set at least partly in New York, I remember the mud flow scenes in the subway, did they also show the statue?)

Wait I can answer that myself. I found a clip from the film on You Tube:

14. Meteor (The meteor that strikes New York passes right by the statue of liberty, without damaging it).

Very Happy
And Chevy Chase when he, thinking it's the restroom door, accidentally opens the cockpit door, bumping the pilot and almost causing a collision with the Statue (and maybe the plane did bump into it - not sure) in:

15. National Lampoon's European Vacation

16. "The Brain" (Le Cerveau)

The climax of this movie involves a huge duplicate of the Statue of Liberty. This 1969 comedy stars David Niven, Eli Wallach, and Jean-Paul Belmondo. The story involves a complicated heist of N.A.T.O. funds with the action taking place in France, England, and the United States.

Great, we'll make 20 yet! Smile
I have seen the statue pictured in Armageddon after the meteor shower on New York, but that was merely a passing glimpse of skyline, so it doesn't count. I also saw a clip from a terrible C-minus direct-to-video flick called Giant in which a giant flying ant is pinned to the torch of the statue, but that was so bad, I don't want to list it either.

There are quite many films made in New York, but they often stay in Manhattan (Godzilla for example). Does anyone remember if the statue was featured in Independence Day, or recently in I am Legend?

When I read this thread I seemed to remember a movie about a retired superhero, who was now an alcoholic, who lived inside the head of the Statue of Liberty. Now, after a couple of days, it has come to me -

The Return of Captain Invincible - Alan Arkin

Anyone else remember that?

I've just thought of another one -

A Journey for Margaret - Robert Young and Margaret O'Brien

Traumatised little girl, parents lost in London war-time bombings, is adopted by American couple and sails to America. As they arrive in New York, passing the Statue of Liberty, the lights of the city start to go out, symbolising America's entry into WWII.

That's how I remember it, anyway.
