35. The Magnificent Seven

After all hell breaks loose and four of the Magnificent Seven are killed, there comes a time of reflection as the villagers look around and see so many dead, mostly banditos, but also a fair amount of villagers and, as mentioned, the four dead heroes from the north of the Rio Grande.

It is a time of sadness, but there is hope for the future. The banditos have been slain and the villagers begin to look forward to a future of happiness and prosperity.

The three remaining of the "Seven" say their goodbyes and mount their horse to ride away. Charles Bronson, Yul Bryner, and this persistent kid -- a kid who relentlessly nagged his way into the group -- are the three warriors who prepare their exit.

As they ride off Bronson and Bryner stare straight ahead with looks of grim determination etched onto their weather-hardened faces. But the kid has a confused look and as they pass this hot-looking Mexican babe working in a garden he eyes her curves and thinks about the possible romantic rewards which would be bestowed upon him if he stayed behind.

He glances at the two hardened cowboys, back to the soft, voluptuous girl, back to the cowboys, one more look at the girl, and then he turns his horse around and starts riding toward her. She smiles and begins to unearth her carrots with a renewed vigor.

The cowboys turn around and see the horny kid getting off his horse and approaching the gardening woman, and they smile.

Then they make that clicking noise that cowboys do to stimulate their horses into a faster pace and the horses start running, leaving little puffs of dust behind them, and the music starts blaring as the words THE END appear on the screen.

I don't recall a dry eye in the house during that memorable and touching scene.

The "kid" was, of course, Horst Buchholz, the German James Dean.

I bet Calmity Jane knew that, and I bet she was infatuated with the guy.

Thanks for the info, Joe.

Wouldn't it be great if everyone added descriptive detail the way that Gus did for "Magnificent 7"?

Laughing I must say that Gus's attention to minor details is unsurpassable.

I just noticed a slight mixup in the numbering here. Here's a recap:

No, he was too boy-like for me, aside from the large age gap.
Here is Horst Buchholz as a young lad

CJ,

At the time you were a child, Horst Bucholz was hosting an astrology show on German television.

On a more positive note, Bucholz spoke several languages fluently. He also enjoyed a long, happy marriage (from 1958 until his death in 2003.) He is survived by his wife and two adult children.

Looks like we might need to start a Horst Buchholz thread.

I'm going to accept "Little Shop of Horrors", joefromchicago, since we've already strayed from the subject -

G = A scene involving Gardening (a garden being "A plot of land used for the cultivation of flowers, (But, no farming, such as cultivation of crops, please.) ----

by including gardens, and not the actual gardening. (But NO scenes in floral shops unless the leading character is a florist or a person who works in a florist's shop. )

(I aim to please. Laughing)

39. Calendar Girls

One of the characters has a husband who is a gardener, who dies early in the movie. He wrote a speech he never got to deliver in which he said, "The flowers of Yorkshire are like the women of Yorkshire. Every stage of their growth has its own beauty, but the last phase is always the most glorious. Then very quickly they all go to seed." That's what gives the women the idea for the calendar.
